this thread is pretty interesting... do you guys who "drop and plop" also plop the water from the bag into your system?? just curious, that is just something i absolutely do not do.

Absolutely not, never add bag water to your tank.

I agree. That bag water isn't going into my tank.

Never add bag water to the aquarium. I do the following when adding new fish:
-Wipe the outside of the bag with a clean cloth. Float the fish for about 20 minutes.
-Add aquarium water to a small bucket. Remove the bag from the aquarium, cut the top off, scoop out the fish and place them in the bucket of aquarium water. After about 30 seconds, I then scoop them out of the bucket and into my quarantine tank, where they will stay for a minimum of a week before going into the main tank.

A bit obsessive perhaps, but it greatly reduces spread of disease.

has anyone done the lazy drip?
what i do is just poke a hole in the bag with my knife and let it float. i know a tiny bit of water gets through so from what i can tell its pretty much the same thing but much easier
i only do that with corals tho

I just get the temperature as close as I can, then I just scoop the fish out and into the tank - I never put bag water in my tanks either, way too many chances for disease imo.

this is not about cycling a tank. a tank still needs to be cycled. the op asked about acclimating fish. i assume he has a cycled tank.

Yes, the question was about acclimating in a cycled tank.

i really dont dig the lazy drip thing, that is what my neighbor does and it drives me nuts. not only does it allow water from tank into bag but vise versa.

If you are acclimating correctly, by the time you introduce the fish, the bag water is nearly identical to the tank water.

I agree, Drop and Plop is the way to go.
