To Acclimate or...Not?

What about if moving fish to a different tank a few miles away? What I do is stop by at my LFS and they're kind enough to bag and air it for me then I'll do the drop and plop method. What if I just drive straight to my destination with fish in container, what is the proper way to acclimate it? Water params/temp are almost the same. I live in a tropical island. We do not use heaters in aquariums. Thanks.

I do the drop and plop also for the most part. Last night I got four new fish did like I usually do put the bags in my tank and let then float for about 15 to 20 mins. Usually I use a smaller net and net them out of the bag and plop them in the tank. Last night however the only net I could find was my big fish net that was by no means going to fit in the bag so I dumped the bag into the net over the sink carrying the the fish to the tank and plopped them in. I never dump the water from the bags into my tank. If I had the tanks and the room I would quarantine them but I don't so got to make do with what I have for now. When I got my columbian sharks though I used the drip method because the stores I got them from were in fresh water and I was putting them in brackish.
