TO ALL STAND BUILDERS - MODIFICATION QUESTION

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To do this safely I would drain the tank lift it off and invert the stand , remove all unwanted wood and fix a 10mm ply board to the base . I'd use 30x6mm steel flat bar for diagonals and use two per side to form an X as angle iron would add thickness where flat bar wouldn't.

Hi,

I cant empty the tank,or move it off the stand, the tank already have a 20mm plywood base.

I dont think putting an X across the doors would help me, as the idea of this is to open the doorway up so i can slide a canister in and out, and putting an X across would defeat the purpose of doing this - or am i misunderstanding what you are saying?

This pic is what I am thinking of doing now after advice from this thread:

Blue Diagonals: 40mm Wide, 400mm Long, 6mm Thick Flat steel, attached using 3 x 40mm Coach Bolts into each the upper support and the right leg

Pink L: 40mm Wide, 40mm High, 400mm Long, 6mm Thick Steel Angle Iron attached to the Beam with the green line using 40mm Coach Bolts, and attached to the base using 10 x 25mm Screws angled at 45 degrees

Does that seem safe?

All of this will be in place before cutting the lower support beam of course.

Thanks

It sucks but I would strongly consider to either operate the 2260 from somewhere else or get a different model. I'm not saying you can't get it to work, but I've seen people re-design things from the original engineering to something that looked like it would work with disastrous results.

My concern is that this is a lot of load. It's not like it will slowly give you a message that it's wrongly built as much as it's likely to be a catastrophic failure if it is.

If you do go this way, then I still would heed the suggestions to work safely and reinforce fully prior to cutting. And let's all hope for the best.

As i have said previously, unfortunately I cant send the thing back, and i have nowhere else to put the canister, I cannot half empty the tank and put it somewhere else to accomodate... trust me, cutting this stand is a last option.

What i have purchased is: 3 x 100 x 100 steel angle iron at 5mm thick, each these will be attached with 4 x 50mm 20guage coach bolts into the cross beam (Marked Green) and 9x12 guage tech screws at 45 degrees against the path of resistance

also i have a diagonal brace which is 350x40x4mm which i will place over the blue line in the pic and secured at each end with 2 x 14guage 50mm batten screws.

once all this is in place and i have made the cut, I have another 35mm wide right angle which i am going to fit to the base of the right leg again fastened into the leg with 2 x 50mm 20guage coach bolts and into the base with 4 x 12 guage tech screws at 45 degrees against the path of resistance

If i can find a way to get the canister in without cutting i will definitely do so

having said all of that....could this work? (I know ideally DONT CUT but if i have to....)

I think I can solve your problem if you did not already cut into your stand. Please show me a picture of your canister so that I can compare it against your previous photos above. This is something that I have a lot of experience with and I hope that I can help.

Hi,

I have not cut the stand! the canister is an eheim 2260, i have been fiddling all night and have not yet found a way in! I have even removed the canister and reactor that is in the pic.

thanks

If the 2260 fits under your stand, why can't you just tilt it at an angle to clear the support beam?

I know your goal is to remove it for cleaning without issue, but if tilting it sounds like a hassle imagine getting on your back to turn the "quick" disconnect valves on a magnum 350 like I do every other week (thanks to the previous owner cutting the hoses too short). AND I have to tilt it to get the hoses out lol.

I just don't understand why this isn't an option rather than potentially decreasing the integrity of your stand. Your plan should work fine in theory, but it doesn't seem worth the risk IMO

Managed to get this huge fcuker under the stand....I find the right angle and the right depth!

I have put it in and out 3 times more without issue so no cutting will be done.

I have it in place and plumbing commences!
