To Dovii, or not to Dovii

That is the question (Lame I know)

Alright well my aquarium challenged buddy wants me to hook him up with a tank for his frat house, he wants something mean that will chase people when they walk by that sort of thing, now he can only afford a 55 gallon (we are looking everywhere for cheap/used setups bigger the better lemme know) I know this wont hold a dovii for life but the lfs has a few right now (3") and we want to get him and just grow him out now im all for healthy uncruel setups so how big can the dovii be before he would be cramped, and how long will it take for him to get that big? (He will be alone)

Also what else is just naturally as mean as a dovii?

Midas and red devil would be better for that tank. The dovii will outgrow it in as little as 8 months if you are feeding it well and keeping up on water changes. It will take a red devil or midas much longer to outgrow a tank like that. You can also try a flowerhorn, they are pretty aggressive. However, I believe none of those fish can show off incisors like dovis can. But yeah . . . they'll be tank bangers though. Jags would probably attempt to attack people and take longer to outgrow that tank as well. I've had a jag that was like the devil before, and also some that were rather mellow as it comes to cichlids. But yeah . . . I would do the dovii if I were you, lolz, but about 99% of the peeps on this forum would disagree due to his inability to keep a larger tank. Cause few can beat the look of a large wolf cichlid flaring at you and trying to attack you through glass. I would use a jag rather than a dovii though, for a 55, just cause it would take longer for it to outgrow it. But it's really up to him.
 
Why not try a puffer? They're mean as hell, and if anyone decides to pet it, it'll easily draw blood if it's larger. ^___^ Maybe a Tilapia buttikoferi would be equally as "vicious" as a Dovii. I've heard Buttikoferi were nicer than Doviis, and I've also heard Doviis look like Puppys next to them. So you'd have to check into that more if you wanted.
 
yeah a midas or devil would be your best bet
i had a devil in my 55 for a lil over 2 years he was fine in it.

and a def glass banger!

sure dovii look great and all but get way to big for a 55

so get a midas or red devil

anyway good luck and hopefully you find a bigger tank so you can get a dovvi or atleast a jag

Small dovii arent very aggressive there kind of shy. A managuese or red devil may be better.
A frat house may not be the best place for a tank.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. Some noob will probably be like "Let's get the fish drunk." And pour some beer in the tank or something.
