be happy you get 50% over here the most theylle give anyone is 35% of the retail price..... i was gonna sell fish to them brought them in to expect something good... walked out with my fish :)

you guys should be happy with 35%. Some fish stores over here will not give any credit at all.

ONe fish store I went to was selling a flowerhorn that was 8"long for $1800. The store owner said to me that it was a masterpiece and was trying to push me into buying it. I said no way and continued on my way. It was a nice fish but no way in hell was I going to buy that fish. He probably got it for a fraction of that asking price.

Your Honour I rest my case in the case of internet vs lfs price points and public perception of the said injustices foisted on the world through supposed ridiculous lfs pricing strategies.

My recomendation is that every lfs shut it doors so the world can flock to internet and international shippers.

Yes let us become a nation of purely service orientate jobs where we work for the corporations. To hell with the vision of owning your own business.

The witness before us clearly shows the verdict that should be reached

Heh. I am not even entirely sure what your point is. It is ironic that the very example I give makes the same point.

I began telling the story of how designer mutts are sold at the same store for ridiculous, outrageous prices. Just so happens the purebred superior breed was bought from an operation run out of a home, as most are.

The story of the fish, where again superior quality, quantity and pricing,(notwithstanding shipping) can be found on line from a more reputable exporter is exactly the the same.

That is the point, and if you ignorantly take my post to task, or single it out then you are not only wrong about your perceptions of my LFS, but you have a bone to pick far more with virtually everyone else BUT me. Perhaps you might hesitate in the future in slagging on corporate intetrests as you unwittingly defend them.

How is it that some of you guys on this forum have no sense of humour

I am not saying anything out of ignorance or with ignorant intent friend.
If I really wanted to do that my post would have been saturated with sardonicism and sarcasim.

Man it is laughable the lack of humour you guys are possessed of.

The cold reality of this thread is this. The detractors of lfs pricing points fail to consider the main issue at hand THE SURVIVABILITY OF SAID LFS!
If the governor being used to decide this issue is simply price points then the lfs may as well just hang up the keys and walk out because they will not be able to compete against the home based (more often than not illegal because of tax evasion) company or the internet based one either.

I bring up again my $75/plate dinner, sure I could have done it for less but then who would be pocketing a lions share from the actual ticket price for the event which was $150/. The event in mention was a vitener from south africa who had come to do a cross canada tour of his wines to introduce them and I was asked to do his saskatchewan stop. My job was to match 5 wines with 5 courses. Now I took it that anyone coming that distance to do such a thing had some money to spend, so I took his money and everyone was happy in the end of the day. To be sure they would have paid less if I had offered to do it for less, but, I was the chef they were told to seek out so hey I went for the big bucks.

The very same would be said of a center piece fish. More often than not someone with THE DISPOSABLE INCOME (that is the heart of this matter) to spend will see the showpiece fish and pay for it. When and if you ever enter the business arena you will see that there are times when you charge the most you can for what you have to sell.

Why? Because you Can!!!!!!

Yet, trust me on this I AM NOT POSSESSED OF ANY HESITANCY when it comes to slaggin corporate interests. Actually to that end, I am not so far away from opening shop myself.

The one difference with my shop will be that the only supplies that will be for sale are the ones I use in my hatchery.

I have spent a good few years building and laying down the framework for this. There is one thing that I have offered my suppliers that totally enthused them with a desire to give me a solid base of pricing that will ensure success. Exclusivity!

For example, my tank supplier has been in business for over 30 years and they do everything from zoo installs to lfs planning from blueprint to install. So to that end, I can source 180g brand new with tops $325. Yet, this does not mean that is what I will sell them for gotta make money after all. Yet, at the same time I have been known to pass on to people who did not have the wherwithal to pay higher my price plus $50 on the deal that they do not broadcast it to others what I got them the tank for.

I will also very much not be in the business of selling anything but fish and a moderate amount of accomp goods such as filters etc.. One other part of my company will be what is a bread and butter aspect tank maintenance contracts. I will also be in the business of having a solid outline of internet sales myself.

Now if you really want to speak about dogs, my hairless of the hairless spike was purchased for $300 and his mate was given to me on trade for 1st pick of a future litter. So that makes a top notch purebred chinese crested hairless and a top notch silver/blue powder puff all for the price of $300 and a puppy(both the parents were imported from georgia to sask). So I have no exception on what you say about dogs from puppy mills that pet stores get.

DID I EVEN ONE TIME MENTION YOUR NAME IN A POST? AND PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE I HAVE SPREAD HATRED IN YOUR THREAD?
You really need to take chill pill friend, if you do not desire opposing points of view do not post on a public and open forum. So my advice would be get thicker skin if you wish to post in such a format as is represented on an open forum. I did not one time aim a post at you, rather put forth some solid business answers.

Dude it has nothing to do with ethics and everything to do with economics. When they approached me to the $75/ plate meal. I read them and saw that they had the cash to spend so why not. I offered them the 5 course wine tasting dinner and hit them with $75/plate and they went for it. Where does that impinge upon good or fair business ethics.

The same goes with a lfs owner. If they can get the $ for the fish more power to them. Have you ever considered how much food a large fish eats amongst other aspects of housing it.

Ok, i shouldnt have singled you out. but this is a thread for fish we know are over priced, even for lfs's. but every one wants to chime in about how this is an unfar thread! im just trying to see how stupid some lfs's think people are and how much profit they think they can turn. i mean look @ some of these, aros for 300$!!!???? any one should know thats incredabul but like you said more power to them for selling them.

That seems to be the trend in this town. They will gladly take in a fish and sell it but will no longer offer any amount of credit.

Texas (cyno not carp) at 1-2" for 10 bucks each, I know they went down to the creek/river and scooped the fry out by the dozens....thats what I do lol!

300$ for a SRT that is full grown, its been there for like a year.

my lfs has some of the most ridiculous retail prices. Here are some examples
5 inch motoro for 249.99 has been there for at least a year
3-4 inch jardini for 99.99
3 inch discus for 69.99
4 inch silver aro for 79.99

Live food
1portion of blackworms 3.50
Paid $5.00 for 25 rosies.

Equipment
Fx5 400.00
Mag 18 300.00

These prices are up to date. Im sure its not the most pricy lfs in the world but i really think that they are really overpriced. Oh, and by the way, the store is located in clifton nj. i think they should change the store name from ab$#(%)-+#-ly fish to absolutely ridiculous but thata just my opinion.
