I am gonna go out on a limb here and be pro store.

I have not read the thread and will do so after I post.

First thing, they are running a business. Which means they are there to make a profit and if they can sell a fish for a high price more power to them. After all rent, wages etc.. etc... etc... must be paid somehow.

Second thing, I will use my restaurant for an example. A dinner that I would have done for $35/plate for a normal everyday consumer I did for $75/plate simply because the market for it dictated that I could charge these special consumers that price.

All I can say to people who will try to compare a price on the net or on a fish forum to what they see in the pet store industry is that they really need to come to grips with the reality that a brick and mortar is much more expensive than internet based.

I AM SAYING THAT THEY'RE ASKING TOO MUCH FOR THE FISH. im not saying i wont do busness with them, i still will and if i think i cant find a fish ever again ill pay a ridicules price for them. this isnt a hate form so leave it alone. i wanna hear about ridicules prices and the few that have payed them, like my self.

I saw a LFS that sold pink tail chalceus at 4" for $19.98 because they were "PINK" :irked:

That's consider oddball :) x2 the price.

my local fish store is selling jardini arowanas for $80 and they are not even 2 inches long n the list go on, bt like other ppl have said you got to support ur lfs stores even if they have pricy fish or other aquarium supplies bt even so i buy from them.

yes online u can buy cheaper bt just cus a canister filter is 20 or 30 dollars cheaper then ur lfs u still have to pay for shipping, not every seller has free shipping, n you most likely will be paying the same amount bt u have to wait some day for delivery while u can just drive 5-10 minutes n get it right away.

so in other words why not try to support ur lfs with watever u can so they can still be on business bcuz ull never kno when ull needem right away with meds or watever.

just my two cents

I've never, ever worked in a lfs, but I know that business is about buying a product at a wholesale rate and marking it up a specific percentage in order to seek a reasonable profit. If the markup exceeds the norm, or what the market dictates, and the merchant knows that he or she will find a sucker who is willing to pay an inflated price, then I have to question that merchants business integrity. Why would I want to do business with such a person? Why should I not think that he or she will take advantage of me in any way possible? Knowing that, why should I set myself up to be possibly unknowingly ripped off in some other way? I prefer to do business with fair, honest people. Why do business with a person who is willing to jack up pricing because he or she can? That's not good or fair business ethics.

DID I EVEN ONE TIME MENTION YOUR NAME IN A POST? AND PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE I HAVE SPREAD HATRED IN YOUR THREAD?
You really need to take chill pill friend, if you do not desire opposing points of view do not post on a public and open forum. So my advice would be get thicker skin if you wish to post in such a format as is represented on an open forum. I did not one time aim a post at you, rather put forth some solid business answers.

Dude it has nothing to do with ethics and everything to do with economics. When they approached me to the $75/ plate meal. I read them and saw that they had the cash to spend so why not. I offered them the 5 course wine tasting dinner and hit them with $75/plate and they went for it. Where does that impinge upon good or fair business ethics.

The same goes with a lfs owner. If they can get the $ for the fish more power to them. Have you ever considered how much food a large fish eats amongst other aspects of housing it.

Wellll....my LFS wants $2500 for a designer mutt breed of dog when my purebred pup of a far superior breed, from the best breeder in my region is half that price. BUT THAT'S ANOTHER STORY :)

I see red belly piranhas routinely listed at almost $50 for three when I could get 10 or 12 for that amount. I believe I could order more than that amount overseas and still break even.

Your Honour I rest my case in the case of internet vs lfs price points and public perception of the said injustices foisted on the world through supposed ridiculous lfs pricing strategies.

My recomendation is that every lfs shut it doors so the world can flock to internet and international shippers.

Yes let us become a nation of purely service orientate jobs where we work for the corporations. To hell with the vision of owning your own business.

The witness before us clearly shows the verdict that should be reached
