Equally un exceptable...Yes, that is what I gather. I have 2ft wide tanks, but feel it is not big enough for aros or whatever, BUT we all know it is a prerogative thing...I think a jar in a 180 for LIFE is better than most....

Ok just trying to clear up what he was thinking.. :)

I don't follow Nic.. I thought you were asking difference between 8x2 and 6x2.. Are you just saying both 8x2 and 6x2 are unacceptable no matter length?

a 2' wide tank is a 2' wide tank.... does not matter is its 6' or 8' or 12' long its still only 2' wide.... a 2' fish turning in a 2' tank... doesnt matter the lenght.....

I believe in the theory of the minimum tank size for a large fish in the length is double the adult size and the width is the same size of the adult size. BUT THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE MINIMUM. I prefer to give them 3x the length and I think that if the fish is 24" and the width is 24" then it's ok, but that's just my opinion.

You can't make generalisations like that. A snakehead that just sits around all day might be alright in a tank thats as wide as the fish is long and twice its length in length (gee thats confusing!) but an active swimming fish like a tinfoil barb would not be.

I'd opt for a 6x3x2 over an 8x2x2 for keeping a large arowana, the extra with is great, it means they can actually swim in three directions not just back and forth.

so if a jardini can hit 30 inches in captivity,a 3 foot width is fie right?
but since length doesnt matter,is it okay to put a 30 inc jardini in a 3 foot by 3 foot tank?:screwy:

Notice he said 6, 8, or 12...don't be rediculous...No one said a jar could go in any 3' tank..that is just extreme....Just to "set the record strait"...lol:D

From the mentioned set list.....You really think he was including 3 ft? Or that it would need to be "re" stated, to avoid that misconception? Come on man, you are being a bit picky...I am not starting anything, I was trying to clarify, as I understood what was said.
