In my 90 gallon I have one Ornate about 8" a Senegal about 9" and a Delhezi about 6" and I can't get them to eat the sinking carnivore pellets from hikari or the massivore pellets. The only reason I don't want to starve them for a week or so is because they are all still pretty much juveniles and I don't want to stunt their growth. How long can I wait them out for ?

my orante loves them. (sorry that sounded like gloating). Can't get my guy to eat squid, and he never eats the snails in his tank either. guess they all have they're peticular tastes.

A trick i do with my tiretrack (neither one that I had would take pellets). I shove them into the food (shrimp, worms, insects, ect) sometimes he catches it and spits out the pellets only. (the jerk), but most times it goes down with the rest.

Good luck, I know I would break way before my fish if I tried the starving any of them.

give them about 1 week without feeding them. they should be fine in that amount of time. my senegal didn't want pellets til i starved him a few days. now he's fine with it

I had a 4" Gold Dust Polypterus that wouldn't eat ANYTHING for 4 months. All of the other polypterus I have ate pellets immediately. I'd say keep offering pellets only for at least a few weeks.

i marinated pellets in my bichir's favorite food ( earthworms ). you let the pellet soak up the worm juice/guts; they ate the pellets the first time. i did this a few more times, then tried with out marinating and it worked!

my bichirs prefer hikari carnivore more...

Thanks for all the great advice guys ill give it a shot! Much appreciated. I especially think marinating them or hiding them in the whole silversides they eat will work!

I am stoked thanks guys wish me luck!

If if they eat a lot their growth will still be stunt, especially the ornates as they are in a 90g tank. Too much feeding will produce a lot of waste and waste turns into ammonia which is the one of the causes of growth rate stunt.

They can go without eating for many months, but that's not reccomended. Try starving them for a week or 2. Try feeding them smaller amount that they can consume 3x a day. Also skip meal if they have a full stomach that they look like they atre bloated as they won't try to eat anything and the food will just turn to waste. Once the belly shrink down then feed again.

Here is what I do for example:
Monday - Feeding time 3x
Tuesday - Feeding time 2x
Wednesday - Skip meal
Thursday - Feeding 3x
Friday - Skip meal
Saturday - Feeding time 2x
Sunday - Feeding time 1x
Monday - Skip meal
Tuesday - Feeding time 3x
Wednesday -Feeding time 2x
Thursday - Skip meal
Friday - Feeding time 2x
Saturday - Feeding time 1x
Sunday -Skip meal
Back to start again.

I have plenty of bio media and filtration (Just ask swede) so no ammonia in my tank... Nitrates are around 20 -30 from the tap. With purigen I get my nitrates down to 15 while doing 2 50% water changes a week.

doesn't matter how many bio-media do you have, As long as there are waste, ammonia will be present. It's best to control the feeding, not over feed them.
