Here's a shot of the female without a light source from the bottom. You can see the shadows cast despite a reflector.
Nice shot...but nothing like these. With the Nikon Flash and camera I have the options in Commander mode to adjust the intensity of each of the flashes individually. In addition I can chose either Manual, Automatic or TTL metering. Previous photos were taken with manual settings. I chose TTL for these. Also with past photos I thought the color temperature of the bottom flash was off. For these photos I did something a little "out of the box". I cut a Mt. Dew bottle in half and used the round end of the greeen plastic bottle as a diffuser. The diffuser worked great...and the green cast helped even out (and enhance the colors). In addition I think the TTL metering system improved with the light being more even.
First shot was taken rather quickly. I would have liked more head room on the left. Still...it shows some of the great colors from this wild Honduran Managuense pair.
I don' know exactly why the bottle worked....but I am certain that it did. I'm going to experiment further with colored gels to see what I can come up with. If you look closely you can see a very feint green shade at the bottom of the fish's operculum. I think the green diffuser helped with the blue in the fins.
This one blew me away. The colors on the male are awesome.
Nice shot of the male Zonatum. What a porker. B)
More to come.
