I got this pair at the OCA extravaganza last year. Overall disappointed initially. Hid constantly. No red. Very picky eaters. This has happened before with other new fish, but this time To a point where I was concerned. Optimistic however. My gold managuense started out the same, solid coloration, then developed a pattern as they got older. I was able to get them eating super meal worms. To boost the color I gut load the worms by keeping them in a container mixed with astaxanthin and raw carrots. Also leave raw potato slices in the mix. Within a couple weeks the colors are starting to pop. They are already starting the breeding...which is disappointing. I’d like them to grow a bit more before they divert energy to making babies. However...is what it is. Not like I can convince them otherwise.

Can’t wait to see these as adults and what fry they produce!

I would have expected a lot more color at this size.

Agreed. Not what I expected. Still....like the GM Managuense. lets see what happens as they get older.

Well Mo, if anyone can help these fish reach their full potential, you can.

Yeah I remember when you first got these, I thought at the time that they looked more piebald, than a red morph. Also there was another member here that posted pics of his juvie male, and at only a few inches long it was already had a lot of red showing. It will be interesting to see the end results.
