Toilet Water Changes?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Friggin genious idea! If it could be done practically...
I try to use the tank water to water plants...

First of all, GREAT IDEA. I have seen something similar on an HGTV program about green living. This house was totally off the grid so water had to be first collected from rainfall in huge containers at roof level. Then it was gravity fed to sinks and showers. then it was collected from those drains into a tank that fed the toilets then into a grey water tank that emptied into the garden. you might try to GOOGLE green home plumbing and get some ideas as not to re-invent something thats already useable for your purposes. I comend your original thinking.

I like the idea of it for conserving water, but possibility for damage to the fish is great. What if you have a party? What if you get sick? I think collecting the aquarium water and using it for toilet flushes would be much better for the fish, but not as practical.

That is the point - used aquarium water would be plumbed to the toilet for flushing. I would only use it on tanks in excess of 100 gallons or so, so that too much water being replaced wouldnt be an issue.

you are obviously some sort of evil genius , what a great idea ,with a bit of planning and running pipes so there hidden is could well be a goer , get it built and apply for the patent. american inventor look out

Oooh - does it involve me getting more money for getting aquariums? Then its a go:ROFL:

I dunno if that is even worthy of a patent, lol, but i get it working . . . maybe. It'll hit store shelves around 2010 - JK:D

wouldn't you have to monitor the number of flushes and add more primer and salt for each couple of flushes? seems a little risky with unknown chemicals if you get lazy. Cool idea though...

This is a good idea, but also a bad idea. I wouldn't want my underside exposed to dirty fish water. There are bacteria, parasites, planaria, snails, ect, in fish tanks that would transfer to the toilet. Imagine getting fish tb on your butt hole.

I was thinking about the toilet smelling funny, but I never thought about that. You would definitely want to keep some chlorine tabs in the tank.

I hate to think of all the fish/turtle water I've gotten in my mouth while starting syphon hoses...

You aren't suppose to put your butt in the water :nilly:
