Told my FX5 is no good

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You should ask him then what he thinks should be used instead since he thinks that filter is a POS.

Done some reaserch at other LFS on the owner, Wow Adelaide is runnin a very tight industry where every one knows every one else.
At the mention of this guy's name you just geta look of disgust. He's known across the state as a rogue buissness man and has had major falling outs with many a supplier and customer.
In other words his rep is a bad one and his advise is not to be taken any notice of.
Jgray152, I can give you his number if you really want. However I dont advise this, unless you feel like banging your head up against a concrete wall. Also I've still gotta go there from time to time as he does get some fish no one else gets.
To sum it all up, this advise was clearly buissness driven. Basically to play me as a fool so I buy his filters. He knows I've got big tanks and clearly spend some big money, so he wants to get as much as he can out of me. A bad move by trying to bull**** me to do it though, as he was my prime candidate to build my 10x3x3. Not any more!

Thank you everyone who contributed to this thread. I'm researching a filter replacement and the Fluval Fx5 seems to be a good value for the money.

Of course, now I'm wondering about the Fluval G (http://www.fluval-g.com/)...
:)

Fluval Gs look nifty but the price is way too high for how little gph they push.

his issue probably has more to do with the fact that he's tired of dealing with hagens parts department when people come in with defective or ruined impellers.. Both LFS I worked for had issues with them and one had this same stance on not carrying hagen product.

The filter is fine, just don't break anything on it because parts are weeks away at best.

Did any else notice he recommended using carbon? I know that's the way the canisters are setup to run. But How many of us normally use carbon. I only use it if there is a problem of some sort in one of my tanks.

He probably makes more money on the mark up of other brands' filters. I believe I would have told him that I don't need his advice. In light of the things he said coupled with his attitude I might of added "go talk to a newbie who might really think you know what you are talking about" just to put a screw to him. There is no reason to be borderline rude to customers.
