Tone

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok I'm going to play "Devils Advocate"..... where is the "line" that one should beware not to cross? Who determines this line? For each "individual" its different. We all have different comfort zones..... as a result of our life experiences..... Its been said that most people in NY are ***es...... i find this not to be true but their pace of life and tolerance towards "negative" behavior seems to be higher due to their surroundings.....

I'm one of those people who like to joke around..... I like to "bust balls" but i know not everyone can take it so i try to limit it to people i know....... sometimes other people take offense even when its not directed towards them..... i call that Collateral damage..... Its easy to form opinions on people from what you "think" they are..... As I said before..... at its best..... the "internet" is only two dimentional..... many intentions and opinions get blurred within the text....... have you ever met someone online and thought you really knew them? Yet after meeting face 2 face it seemed awkward..... almost uncomfortable?...... or even had phone conversations where you can decipher "tone" only to meet and feel the same way...... the internet is very "fake" medium in which to form opinions upon people..... one must really becarful to "read between the lines".....

"Why cant everyone just be nice" "Treat other how you would like to be treated"....... i'm sorry to say that dosnt work in life.... and its definately not going to work on the internet.... I try to be true to myself as much as possible..... i'm not going to :) when i really :p that really take the fun out of expressing a opinion...... I walked a fine line many a times...... its alot funner on the "edge"....... I'm surprised Neo has not banned me with some of my antics towards him...... but then again i knew he could take it..... and he knew my intentions are purely for entertainment purposes....... afterall isnt that why we're all here in the "Lounge"...... there's a inate wiring within the human psyche to laugh or be amused by others follies..... how many times have you seen someone trip and started laughing then all of a sudden social conditioning takes over and you try to help them out......

I have had my fair share of flame wars...... finally come to realize its just a waste of breath or typing..... " do not get in a fight with a pig... you just end up tired and dirty while the pig has a good time"....... I admit i'm guilty of "trolling" at times..... it comes naturally for me being that i love fishing..... :grinno: back to the original question..... where's the line?.... well IMO there's no need to cuss or threaten with physical harm....... everything else is fair game...... have the "balls" to be yourself...... pun intended......

Oddballer, there's a huge difference between nausing someone and purposefully "busting balls" etc, which I am very fond of, to cultivating a fake, arrogant, know all persona :D

Huge difference. Del hasn't exactly been on the edge enough to get banned yet.

It's really quite simple, del is trying to be someone he's not. Trying to emulate characteristics that he simply doesn't have naturally. It doesn't work, simple as that.

He also appears condescending and acts like a know all to people who have a lot more experience and knowledge than him.

Del - if you insulted me for fun, and talked **** etc, I would think it's funny. I regularly post on a boxing forum which is SO different to here, it's full of pumped up fight fans just insulting each other, doctoring photos of each other with *** porn, being *******s, being rude, obnoxious, insulting etc etc etc. But that's fun, it's just a game. On the actual boxing discussions most of them are cool guys, and can accept when someone actually knows a hell of a lot more about boxing, has boxed themselves, works in the industry etc.

But with you it's a fake, cultivated arrogant persona, coming across as a pseudo wise-ass. What's the point? You were a much better guy when you were an enthusiastic 18 year old who really loved fish.

Being a pseudo-wise old fishkeeper doesn't work with you because you are not an advanced fishkeeper. There are plenty of people on here who know more than me and have more exp, and I can accept that, and take it into account.

Be more humble and realistic, you don't have much exp. with fish, you couldn't even keep a tig alive for more than a month, yet you're trying to lecture someone like ultimatejay on cycling his tank. Who is 30 odd, has been keeping monsters for years, has a 750g etc. It's just not cool del.

To be totally honest I don't mind wiseasses. I'm sure in real life Neil is a cool guy. And for example T1KARMANN on here is a total wiseass etc, but in real life he's a really cool guy. Went to see his setup, and he gave me a couple of bichirs for free etc.

The difference is del, your newfound persona is fake and cultivated and it sticks out like a sore thumb, you can tell a mile off when someone is not being themselves. I was the first person to say something about it, but it looks like everyone on here has noticed too.

Just be yourself, it's easer, cooler, and lets you grow into your own person. Emulating someone else shall serve only to stunt your mental progression, trying to fit into someone else's shoes that are the wrong size aint gonna happen, you'd be better off spending this time crafting your own very nice shoes :D

Yeah :iagree:. However it does not have enough tone. I would say this "stunt"boy is in a puddle of $hit and he does not have the shoes for it.:naughty:

The line is pretty easy to see actually. When you're warned- you crossed the line. You can either accept that someone thinks you've gone to far and shape up, or continue to be an ass and get banned. It's pretty simple. A person will not get banned on MFK withough a warning, unless they're pulling some pretty rotten stunts.
