In this thread I am going to be posting updates on the development of my pair of Oscars.

So I started a community tank of cichlid juveniles. My 14 year old son is the one that actually picked Toni and named it.20170608_092714.jpg

This is the first pic i got of her. She was about 1.5in long. And as all Oscars do she has grown the most out of all the cichlids I bought.20170702_131205.jpg
Here she is about a month later. 20170706_114933.jpg
At this point I got a second 55gal tank and pet her in it. I then mail ordered a male and female albino Ruby Oscars.20170713_125311.jpg
This is Nemo my male ruby oscar 20170715_145926.jpg
Here you can see all 3 Toni, Nemo and the female ruby. I bought the female just incase Nemo didnt love Toni, I think I will have to rehome her soon20170713_131111.jpg
But so far it looks like Nemo and Toni have meet with cupids arrow.20170714_001408.jpg 20170714_001337.jpg
These two you can see his bum left fin, the clear one just behind his gill plate. Was mad at first, you know sent a bum fish. Then he grew on me . They also live with a Blue Phantom pleco.20170709_223427.jpg
A pair of Spotted Raphael cats20170715_145941.jpg
And a pack of Roseline sharks as dithers20170709_223250.jpg 20170718_124206.jpg
And finally the tank. First thing on the agenda is to rehome the female ruby, we shall see from there.

So I keep it at 78 degree, ph is 7.8 I have a Auqaclear 110 on it.
I feed them Hikari gold pellets, mealworms, crickets, bloodworms, they also hog down veggies ment for the pleco. Any questions suggestions

Also if you live in the Vancouver,Wa, Portland, Or area and interested in the Albino Ruby female pm me

That looks like a nice pair and their fry is going to look cool.
I suggest that you can buy another male Oscar fo the same size as the Ruby female and try to pair them choose a different breed of Oscars like tiger, wild ones, chilly red or fire red to really contrast the Ruby females color and i guess you will be happy.

So its been a week. I have already had to rehome the female albino Ruby Oscar. It looks like I was wrong on Toni and Nemo falling in love as well. She has discovered his bum fin and has now started to attack Nemo, so if you live in the Vancouver, Wa. area and want to adopt a special albino ruby oscar male then let me know via PM.20170724_114121.jpg

Hi, sorry about nemo, I think the bum fin is cute. Your tank looks good as well. One thing you will realize as time goes on, which you might have already, is that a 55 won't be quite big enough for a "forever home" for 2 Oscars, or even one. It looks like your largest fish is around 3-4", so you probably have another 6 months until they really need a larger tank. But something to think about.

Indeed I have plans for that. ATM I live in an apartment and can only have up to 55gal tanks. Lease runs out in seven months or so, then we are going to move into a house and get Toni a giant home.

Sounds like a good plan, will be just in the nick of time. Gotta love Oscars, they grow quick and will eat you out of house and home! Very rewarding fish to keep.

Today Toni was rather potogenic

Also I may have been wrong with Toni and Nemo not getting along deal. I had to put my Flowerhorn in Toni's tank (he was lip locking with a Red Terror ) and was making Toni MAD!!! that he was in her area, as soon as he was gone she was all back in love with Nemo.

Been trying to hold off on this update, you see I ordered a new background and some driftwood to rescape Toni's tank.

The really big change is I did have to rehome Nemo. Toni finally discovered his bum fin and rejected him. All she would do is attack Nemo, eat, or sulk in a cave. Now that she has the tank to herself cichlid wise she is really struting around with all her fins fully out all the time. Here is a shot with the new background.

Oscars are soooo funny. She was all freaked out after I changed the background. Would only swin againt the front glass giving some serious side eye to the new background.
Here are a few updated pics of Toni, she is nearing 7in maybe now, in this one you can see she is way wider than my own paw.20170918_121028(0).jpg
