Toni and Nemo my albino Oscar's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So it's official Toni is six months old now. She measures in at 7in, so 1in per month since I got her.
So last month Toni had an unexpected guest. A friend of a friend shows up with a 10in Oscar in a bucket and ask me to take it with no warning..... I don't have a hospital tank...So in the 29 with the breeding cons...not gonna work out. In with the JDs, they are in the middle of their winter of sorts...not a good plan. So no other choice put into Toni's tank it goes. In the first few minutes Toni beat the heck out of him and striked him like 5 times. Riped off a mess of scales, rips one if his pectoral fins. So I put in my divider, and everything calms down. Couple nights go by and everything is fine. Then I wake to a bunch of splashng noise and sure enough he pushed his way thru the divider and was fightng but good with Toni. So I take him to a local Petco and Toni is back to her solo tank life not counting her Roseline sharks, Synadonis cat and Orange seam pleco.

Here are some pics of her today, all the hits from the wild guest have all healed up and she us back to her pristine looks. Oh did I mention...I switched from Hikari Carnisticks to NLS, extra large fish 4.5mm Floating. And boy does she love it, didn't think it could happen, but she begs for food more than before....

You did the right thing and Toni looks great.

Beautiful looking Oscar. Did you do anything special to switch foods, or did she just go straight to the NLS?

So I ordered it Friday, got it on Sunday. One the first feeding she ate 5 pellets, chewed more than normal....looking at me and I know she was all WTF is this.... At the night feeding she ate three more.
Day 2 she only ate 1 pellet in the am and one pm. This is day 3 and she didn't eat any in the AM, so a work in progress still.

My JDs like their new food more, each one been eating 4 pellets a meal since Sunday(3mm sinking). My Sharks and Tetras are digging the flakes. All NLS, I really hope she makes the change over. I get 3x the amount of food for the same price with the NLS and a better food as well.15125089851501350192545.jpg
The left one is for the JDs, middle are flakes for sharks/tetras and right is Toni's, if she switches then I got goid for a year I guess I think I will put 3/4 of each bottle in bags in the freezer, don't want it to go bad being opened twice a day for the year.

Firstly may I say that Toni is stunning, that white - my gosh! What a beautiful fish! :D

I've never thought about freezing pellets, have you done it before? If so, how did it go?

When I buy a new tub of pellets I empty a small amount (about two months worth) into the old food tub and put the new tub up in the cupboard until I need to refill the old tub again. :)

This is my first go at getting big things of food. Normally I only got small things of it due to growing cichlid's and didn't want then to outgrow the food and then them not eat it and get stuck with food they won't eat.

If any of the others have any history, does freezing extra food preserve the food till rethawed and used. You would think that food at the bottom would go bad after being opened twice a day for a year....

Well second day now that she has not eaten the NLS pellets. Just to test I gave her part of a Carnistick and she ate it, so it seems she don't like the NLS, a couple more days and she should be eating the NLS I hope...
