TOO Fat? Snapping turtle outgrowing his shell???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My parents powerfed me. Now I search for my own food. Granted I am a sit and wait predator that looks for an large, easy kill. That would be the Taco Bell value menue. Now I am like your turtle. Just cut him back. I didn't mean to come off the way I did, I just do not like to feed everyday because it is better to fast.

I mean it might be a little overweight, but I catch snapping turtles all the time that are as fat as that one. And these are WILD animals. And a fast growth rate is not a problem. Someone said that he should be 3-4", no way. Maybe if you wintered your turtle. But since he doesn't have to hybernate, all he can do is grow. You have had him indoors for 1.5 yrs, so that equals almost three whole growing seasons for a wild turtle. So, in no way is this animal abuse. I still would cut back on feeding a little, but that turtle looks very healthy otherwise.
