  1. hey dangit, the thread i just got done typing a book to did not say it was closed until after i tried to enter my post!It still did not a minute ago, quite a waste of my time there!I was trying to calm it down and get the thread back on track.Get the closed sighn up sooner please.
  2. now,i gave a little advice on not getting in over your head with how many herps you get due to lifes unexpected changes such as moving, jobs, school, travle and family. The thread got way off topic and closed but this part was ok.Some of you were chimmin in with stories of your own and i think its a good subject.
  3. i just found out that i have to go to training for my job 2 weeks 2 hours away so this means somebody i can trust will have to be in my house, feed and water all my pets, let dog in and out,cat box, lights on and off and hopefully not get bit by anything.or loose anything.I was just using this as an example.I had to thin my stuff out long ago but its still not fun having to trust somebody with it all.Just thought it would be an interesting thread subject.Later guys.:)

I can defintely agree with you on #1 and #3.

I remember when I used to have a whole bedroom full of herps, probably 15 snakes and a few lizards. Now I only have the one python. Sometimes thats how life goes.

Well, I know that I already got a downgrade plan: the first ones going are the ones that I can't afford to keep as a pet. However, seeing that they are cheaper to maintain and can go quite awhile without food, I don't see this in my future yet.

you never told me what was in your avatar.fill me in.Yeah i miss some of my old herps for sure.i would like to breed something again some day but just don't have the time right now, trying to get into a better career.

It's in my signature: Bipes biporus.

Anyway, life happens. However you have to have a plan in place for them. I expect all my herps to break even and be able to take care of themselves for a few days up to about two weeks while I am gone.

Just need a water-changer with a self-disinfecting... machine..

I dont plan on more than 2 or 3 more herps until college... I understand getting in over your head. My friend Beau who is a freshman (high school) had to sell almost all of his herps. His caiman (yes, a caiman) died though during a cold spell and power outage last december, and that was the only herp he really had all figured out. He had a very nice pond in his yard that was his pride and joy. He had to sell his leos, golden geckos, 5 boas, tokay, savs, some kind of swift, and a lot of his turtles. Now he has his green anaconda, dumerils boa, mangrove monitor, and beardie. Still a little too much on his plate, but he learned his lesson, unlike a certain someone... *cough*

As for me, I'm fine with what I have for now. Maybe one more snake, I'm thinkin' a carpet or rainbow boa. But whatever I get, its going to be something to breed, and hopefully provide a little money to squeeze by with. Thats the plan anyway... Sorta.

Yeah that's the plan....I'm hoping when I breed I'll end up with some nice holdbacks and then just enough money for the hobby to pay for itself.
......hopefully:nilly:

I'm not trying to be the next Bob Clark. But maybe 20 baby carpet pythons that sell for 200 (or whatever the heck it is) might just maybe be able to pay for some feeders, new lightbulbs, or whatever. I'm not trying to buy myself a new house or anything.

And notice the 'sorta'. :) Haha no worries I'll be fine, even if I am all over the place. Thats for your 'concern' ;) lol

If youre thinking (and this is in general) youre going to make a profit on these aniamls youre kidding yourself if you think breeding will inflate your piggybank. The money is in importation/which I call the exploitation of these animals. I breed enough aniamls to where they pay for their own food. I think this is the best way to do it, it keeps it fun and manageable, imagine having a place like clarks?

Even clark is having a hard time trying to sell his animals, lots of states are requiring people to be licensed for large constrictors and the market is flooded with designer animals.

I agree.....people don't realize what it takes to really make money off breeding herps. Not impossible, but a lot more than just getting an "adam & eve" and putting them together. 99.9% of the time, its going to remain a hobby.
