I recently saw somebody say somewhere that you could keep a silver aro in an 18" wide tank until the fish was about 24" long.

I sort of agree with that but wanted to get an expert opinion.

What do you think?

Can't have an oscar in a 29g but yet a 24" silver aro in a 75g is OK?

Hell an Oscar would be fine in a 29 ga for a lil as long as it was a grow out and it was a baby. What killed her fish was lack of care for water quality. You should have explained that dirty water kills fish, not called someone a class a retard (which many people will take offense even if it wasn't directed at them). And explained to her that cleaning the tank doesn't cost much, a ten dollar gravel vac, a sponge, and an 8$ water conditioner bottle would have lasted her a long time with that small of a tank.

Idk maybe its just me (and most of the other people on here) that when someone says something like that, you calmly point out there mistakes, and tell them how to fix them. And if they do hit back with something like oh well my daddy knows a bunch about fish, just say okay, have fun with the hobby of improperly keeping fish.

I didn't call her a retard to her face.
The o was in the tank for a year.
And to the aro statement:
I didn't really know if there were different rules for aros than the rules I use for cichlids
(Which is the width of the tank be 6 inches longer than the fish if it is under 15 inches and twice the length of the fish if it is over 15 inches)

I can't tell if you meant anything by it but
1.) I don't appreciate being called a lier. (Which is what you were clearly implying)
And 2.) I don't appreciate being called a lier about my sex. I am a male human being and would like to be addressed as such, instead of as a woman or girl.

Going back and forth with a class a retard on this one.

Situation: she's kept and oscar in a 29 gallon tank for a year until it died. Water was cloudy ALL the time, media never changed, gravel never vacuumed.
Once I told her she needed a tank of at least 75 gallons I got:
How DARE you say I killed my little Oscar? I PAMPERED him!!!!!
(Notice the very mature use of extra exclamation points and capital letters she threw in there)

Honestly, you should of told her: She needs to clean the fish tank a little better, maybe helped her with teaching her how to properly do it?

I sort of agree with her.. imagine being new to a hobby and sharing something sad with someone and them say something like "Wow your fault.. should had him in a bigger tank" but "Well if you ever decide to get a new fish tell me next time and I will help you with some good information, or you could join a website that will teach you plenty of things". And the only reason I feel bad for her because I'm pretty sure all of are first fish wasn't kept in the best tanks, we had to learn.

I didn't mean that you did say it to her face, calling her that at all is no bueno in any circumstance. I thought people stopped using the word retard as an insult years ago. I've never owned an oscar so idk how fast they grow, but I do know they get HUGE. I wonder how many big box pet store oscars have met a similar fate
