Too much light?

What kind of fish and how many do you have in the tank? Given the amount of light you are pouring into the tank you could be simply running out of organic or inorganic nutrients. Also temperature fluctuations can do a real number on plants. Having a 65 watt bulb blasting into a 10 gallon tank will cause the temp to rise. Try hooking a fan into the same timer you have for the lights.

I have no fish, but I was thinking about trying some cherry shrimp. Right now, there is nothing in the tank except the odd snail that has escaped my pinching fingers.

The temp seems to fluctuate between 75-80 degrees. Is that too much? Are you saying I should just aim a regular fan at the tank while the light is on?

I have some ferts on the way, and one that I ordered was Seachem Flourish Nitrogen... will that remedy the lack of organic nutrients? I am also going to be using Excel, and Trace elements.

The cabomba is..... I dunno. Its a big plant for the 10g. The tips of the buds? are growing, but the lower portion of the plant seems to be thinning out. It may be too big for the tank.
this is typical. top parts shady the lower parts.

once again the trace is just watered down flourish no need for it. excel is liquid co2 so not a bust. nitrogen is only one part of the macro ferts needed.

next time i would think about ordering dry ferts.

they will last a year or two maybe longer in your case for less then it costs to get the bottles of flourish.

Thanks for the link. The cabomba looks worse after doing a water change. Its base is rotted away and is coming away from the substrate.

The microsword is growing. I can already tell it is going to do well as long as I give it what it needs.

I added a DIY CO2, and my ferts arrived today. I dosed the Excel, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium.

The trace may be useless like you say, but I ordered it last week, and now I have it, so I'll probably just use it until its gone.

If these liquid ferts don't do the trick then I will give the dry ferts a shot.

I don't really need a filter since there are not fish in the tank. I thought I'd use the powerhead to generate water movement. Is it not necessary?

There is never too much light.
I disagree I put a 250 watt halide(had it laying around) on a 20 gallon long tank. The fish would hide in the shade because they were getting burned by the light.

well a halide is like the dam sun lol!!!!!
how long would u sit ina tanning bed??? 10 hrs????
well I tried it out, I thought I might be able to pull it off if I mounted it 2 feet above the tank. Anyway It wasn't till 30 mins in I noticed it wasn't usable.

I ended up using a 150 watt at 2 1/2 feet, that worked good.
