Why? Do you actually think that mean + mean = peaceful or even possible cohabitation? Or are you looking for them to battle?

I'm looking for something that could stand it's ground vs a red devil, why would I want to see them fight? By the way it's a 65 or70 gallon and of it it doesn't work out it will go in my 180 I'm now thinking of a jag what do u think about a male jd

keep the rd in the tank it's in by its self, it'll fill that tank just fine. and i'm not sure if a jd could keep it's own against it..

Nothing will get a long with a RD in that small of a footprint. I had my 10" barred Midas in a 60g and I couldn't even keep a female in there. As for the JD, that'll be snack food. If you put anything else in that tank you're an idiot.

every time it boils down to the individual fish itself. along time ago i tried a 10 inch male festae and added a 8 inch rd and even though the top 10 most aggressive cichlid sites you look at say the festae are meaner the rd. the rd refused to let him go and the bigger male festae fell into submission. im sure out of 20 attempts wether it being a dovii vs umbee or rd vs festae or jag your probably never going to get the same results. its all a matter on which fish will give up first. so to awnswer your question there is no correct awnser. any aggro cichlid can kill another aggro cichlid at any givin time.

get a female rd if you want another fish. no other fish will stand a chance to another that has already claimed a tank. at best you can throw in a divider let the new fish get settled in so it has a chance but will not work for long if at all.
a male jags have big teeth and big teeth = big injuries!!!!

60 gallon tank isnt even suitable for an RD. If you dont want a solo fish, then just get something else. Choose more peaceful smaller fish if you want a community thing. Otherwise be happy with 1 RD. DOnt be an idiot and put other fish at risk because you jsut want more fish. Get a bigger tank or get another tank if you want another mean fish.

180 gal. is more realistic, I'd be sure to reseach a few things before making a buy.
1st being the word "intolerrant" which I believe is the word they use to describe the Red Devil's tankmates............in other words they attack any perseved threat relentlessly. The devil hopefully will only take take 75 gallons of tank space in a 180 and call it his own. I'd look towards smaller meaner substrate dwellers myself like a few Salvini and Convicts and maybe an open water cichlid like a Wolf might work but the Jag is alot more territoral. I might be wrong each fish is different they'll let you know who stays and who goes.............stir clear of festae especially in pairs they'll want 100 + gallons. As for the rest of the fish mentioned as overly aggressive I have Zero experience with grammodes, black nasty,umies.etc....

jag or a dovii for sure..
