Top cichlids you must have

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One of the tanks would house some Gnathochromis permaxilaris and a few Triglochromis otostigmas!

Frontosa are definitely very cool! I'd say with a tank that size they'd be worth trying :)

If I had a 500gal I'd get polypterus and such, big ancient fish, but if cichlids are your thing then up to you! :D

One would deff be a dovii pair, the other would be a more relaxed community tank maybe some vieja, and a ton of bottom dwellers

I think a Vieja Guttulatus would be a nice addition. Mine has been quite personable, and he's very colorful. Although you may have trouble finding one, as they aren't as common as other Vieja species.

If you're interested in them, I believe COTA currently has some in stock.Vieja Guttulatus.jpg

Nandopsis Haitiensis pair in one. And I'm a sucker for all things Vieja/Maskoheros/Oscura. I'd do one big male Melanura, a smaller group of Oscura Heterospilus and a shoal of Thorichthys. Might try my luck with a Trichromis Salvini in that size tank with aforementioned group.

Been wanting to try a Mesoheros tank. Gephyrus, ornatum, atromaculatum, festae. Might not work but I would want to try, getting 1m 3f of each species and growing them all up together. Might throw my crenicichla in as well.
Other tank I'd probably do large CA cichlid community. Nothing too crazy aggressive, just a bunch of 8-12" cichlids.

1: Red Dovii Pair
2: South American community with geos, rotkeil severums, hypselecara Coryphonpoides, plecos
3: Amphilophus Community
4: Festae Harem
5: Ornatum/Gephryum pair & Stalsbergi pair

hello keepers I was wondering if you had five tanks each 500 gallons and money was no problem what would you stock them with ? But they have to be cichlids north or South American ..I'm trying to get ideas for 2 500 gallon tanks that I have sitting but wanted to do some ideas on possible stocking ....
I'd go a breeding pair of dovii in one with some hardy catfish and in the other tank i would probably make a semi aggressive south American tank:
X3 hoplarchus piscattus (true parrot cichlids)
X8 Severum of different colours
X1 silver /black arowana
X2 motoro stingrays
X1 black ghost knife fish
X12 silver dollars
X1 l014 sunshine pleco
