iv heard many ppl have dead baby bowfins in few days,only few keep them alive,very fragile at young age

That is a real shame, bowfin are stunning.....But yes he was exstremely small,iam suprised someone sold him that small, even at 3inch my channa pluero's were easy candidates to die, one did but the female went on to grow to at present 11-12inches...but the date rate amounst juvi's is apparently 80-90%...very hi, then it changes and they become bulletproof
