Howdy,
Many of you guys mention that you grow out monsters and then trade them in for store credit at your LFS. Others just trade for variety.
Here's my problem: I could not find a single store in the greater Kansas City area that accepts trade-ins for compensation. Basically, I am lucky if they take my fish at all. No one wants to give me $ or store credit or other fish in return. Not even my LSF where I got them from. But: I paid hard $ for them, they'll sell them for hard $, and damn it, I think I should see at least some of it.
Oh yeah, it's about my Red Hooks. As I have stated before, they cause nothing but trouble. I also said I enjoy having them, but no more. Beautiful fish, but too skittish and destructive. Honestly, I do not think they are suitable for captivity, or mine are just
Anyways, I give them another couple of weeks, but I am seriously considering getting rid of them. In my tank, they bang into the glass full force, every time leaving a cloud of scales behind. Despite of floating cork bark, water lettuce (which they ate completely), branched driftwood, they freak out every single time I come near the tank, even when I feed.
I have been a proponent of "you buy a fish, you accept responsibility". But these guys are starting to spoil the fun of fishkeeping. I enjoy my tank less and less every time they slam into the walls and hurt themselves

- How do you go about getting store credit?
- Do you know such a store in the KC area?
