Yeah I would only guess they would have insurance to some extent but how would they be able to put an actual number on the losses? I am sure even they are clueless as to how many they actually have.It would be speculation, and like the article you posted the link for(thanks) even they said the farmers were hurting do to the economy b4 this even happened. Now what can they possibly do? I am sure they will start over and some fish as they said can be replaced in 3 months but what about monster sized cichlids and cichla etc that need years to grow to breeding size? I would hope we have some hardy adults left at the end of this mess but i don't think sf course,I see one good thing-over breeding will not happen if they need to ALL go back to the wild to start things over.It will give us all nicer/wild and more true looking fish and I know a lot of these Farmers also have farms out in the wild so I am sure that new stock will be replaced.
Yeah, the Tampa area is made up of A LOT of small farms of veggies, fruit, and FISH. A lot people are having a hard time but most people I've talked to who own farms are keeping their heads up and praying for sunshine.
That is really a drag. It is such hard work and a lot of stress to be any kind of farmer. I hope that this has just been a freak weather event and that those folks can start to recover.
This is terrible. I am sure there are hobbiests who can help supply with future breeding stock. I know since you mentioned salvini there are many on here who keep gourgous pairs on here. I am sure for once some of the hobbiests who keep F0-F2 can lend a hand.
