Usually how long does it take to train baby aros to eat food sticks?
My green arowana is roughly 6inches and i've been trying to get it to eat food sticks with out any joy. When it sees the pellet it bites it and then spits it back out. It's not too keen on market prawns either the only thing it eats is mealworms.
Is there any harm in feeding it mealworms on a regular basis?

it may take a day or a couple of weeks the main thing is be persistent it will eventually take it. unless you are feeding mealworms that have just shed and are soft it is not advisable to feed them to young aros they could have problems digesting their shells.

Yeah, steady diet of mealworm isn't the best, crickets would be better. I would fatten him up a bit and then offer only prawn and pellets, he should eventually take to them.

If it been eating well and has some weight, starve it. It's already biting and spitting them out your almost there. Try cracking them in half offer once or twice a day. Don't crack only offer pellets...it's the aros that pay no attention at all to the pellets, those are the problem ones.

I agree, if it is already trying the pellets, then just don't feed it anything else. I would say within a few days it will be eating the pellets.

The best way i have found is useing other fish around the same size as the aro which wont attack the aro that will eat pellets when the aro sees the other fish eating after a few days the aro will start mouthing them and within a week the aro should start eating.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks.
I've only feed it lighter coloured mealworms. Again he would take the pellet and spit it back out but as soon as i chucked a mealworm in he swam from across the tank and ate it like he has eaten for days :). I'm going to try and break the pellets in half and hopefully he will start eating it.
