wow! good luck with that man!

with that hight sounds like that thickness would be appropriate! but hey i am not one of those crazy DIYer's like portabuddy and midnight! :screwy:

thats what i thought too..... 3/8" for up to an 18" tall acrylic aquarium
at least someone has responded to the 3/8" question...............:headbang2

Where is your sense of adventure? :D

It is certainly worth a shot and it is very do-able. You don't need to laminate anything. Just add the missing side and cut the top like Lil-Stinker drew on the picture.

Thanks........., really appreciate you taking the time to look over my project........

I definetly thought it was do-able.... from the moment I saw it...... I just wanted to here someone agree with me that had some knowledge on the subject ......

I assume you have worked with acrylic....???

I still think that I am going to atleast laminate the two sides that have the wholes drilled in them simply because it will create a backing for me to fill the holes with. what do ya think......, since your the only person who seems to think that 18" is not to tall for 3/8" acrylic. Would you recommend a weld on solvent or just use acetone to laminate the 1/8" sheet...., i never laminated such a big piece before........??

thanks again for an help yas might have......

I need a little re-assurance form someone.....

I say do it...

Use the parts from the "top" to cover the holes.. I havent done much with acrylic but I have a sense of adventure... Sory if you thought I was not "All For It" ... go to town, have a ball... use my tools if you like...

laminating a big piece like that is NOT a good Idea, it there is a scratsh or divit in wither sheet your $crued you will get a ugly bubble. but if lets say bolth peces are brand new and un marked then all you do is cover the one with a thin coat of Methylene chloride not acetone, acetone will work and well just not as well as Methylene chloride the you squish them together and your gold..., I would and did say do it go for it!!!, i think i was actuly one of the first to say it?, Even at 3/8 its a bit thin but like you said it profetionly done so its not like its going to leak, and the top trhe way it is its going to be plenty strong. Not like the rays are going to wreck it or anything.

Laminating will give to a stronger ank but for the trouble its forth i wouldnt, its worth the risk I think.

Yah you defiently were the first one to give me the thumbs up...., thanks.

And "use ur tools"....., well I dont need tools but I do need some 3/8' acrylic though???..ha-ha...

I defenitly think that I am going to go for it..., I already started to router out the top holes....., just need to buy some solvent and a piece of acrylic....

Ill keep ya informed....., thanks again
