most adhesives/sealants wont hold on to HDPE which is the type of plastic most buckets, pail, cans are made from.

Well that's an inconvenience...
 
I dont want to steal your thread but i think were both looking for the same thing Im also in the procces of building a bio filter for my pond with a 32g trashcan. This was my idea. I should probly put the return at the top of the can after reading though.

Seriously man.....Just fiberglass a bulkhead on there. Some glass fabric and some epoxy resin and you'll be good to go.

I never got that far. There were issues with the overflow (room wise) and we just canned the idea and went with a canister. It was much more effective for what we were doing.

lol seriously man...buy a $3 uni-seal and do it right, it takes about 90 seconds and you can remove it later if you need too. :D :headbang2
