LUCKY!!! my resident mantis that lived in my sump seems to have died. i haven't seen him in about two weeks and i've had him for 2 years now :(

really hard to tell from just the face but could be a peacock. just a guess though. thats what mine was.

lets see i've got, turqiose sponge(no idea on species), green stars, porcelein crab, abolone, sea stars, my favorite though are probably these really cool worms with tiny hairs all over(that really hurt if you touch them) jk, $%^& bristlecondas!!! my favorite were some bright turquoise mussells that unfortunately died after about two months, probably from starvation. wish i had pics

he is a peacock mantis shrimp. They make great pets, but do better in their own tank. I have seen them housed in 29g cube tanks well.

My best score was a special order of live rock with large pieces only. Under a long piece of shelf rock that wieghed 22lbs was about 80 juvenile red serpent stars. Back then these were hard to come buy and most pet stores only had brittle stars(brown) and the green serpents. I got $20 a piece for them and stocked 4 stores for about half a year. LOL

Bet that was a good payback for your hobby!

i dunno if thats a peacock . Im thinkin Gonodactylus smithii . those are supposed to be the most interactive of the mantis shrimp . totally cool . go here for info :

you still want em ? if not id take him off your hands depending on how big ...
ive been looking for a mantis for my biocube 8 ....
mr. firemouth .... hi this is Dan in st.louis .. i met you at a frag meeting ....
i read about a post of a peacock mantis in a 29 gallon in a tank in st.louis . said it never hit the glass.. well seascape had the awesomest peacock i wanted it ! oh well shes sold now but im sold on mantis shrimps . my biocube 8 should be perfect for a small species . btw you can keep them in a reef tank depending on the species . this smithii is a smasher and will prob take out snails and crabs and maybe starfish , but may leave fish alone. a spearer may leave all but fish alone .

cool . very pretty . how long is it ? ive reaed that it might be a good idea to put some acrylic down under the substrate on top of the bottom of tank glass, cause when they burrow they may try to smash the glass thinking it a rock or something . dunno . may be fine without it . there seems to be alot of people that are concerned with breakage by mantis and others that kinda arent too concerned and think its over-hyped . i think smithii isnt supposed to be a fierce smasher like a peacock but the biocube 8 glass seems kinda thin to me . wow you totally scored . what a pretty stomatopod . youd probably be lookin at $30-$50 at a store not including shipping for online purchase . you got this live rock at the lfs not online ?

Only peacock mantises will do that. Other species aren't strong enough.
