Sorry, not exactly sure what happened, but I hope that your fish improves soon.

He doesn't have bouyancy problem. So I think it's the bubble that sits in his stomach. Now he developed swollen on half of his side. Look like dropsy but just half of his side bulge out.

Do you think this would fix the problems electric blue jack dempseys have? I've bought 8 or 9 from a local fish store and all but one have died from internal parasite just out of the blue. One day they would be swimming and happy and the next they have white poop, refuse to eat, stay at the back corner of the tank and then die. There really isn't much info on them other than they are very weak until about 3 or 4 inches and die of parasite a good portion of the time.

It would certainly be something that I would use a prophylactic, if keeping that species. Another great option is feeding New Life Spectrum Hex-Shield, for the recommended duration. (3-5 days)

Hello RD,

First off, I have read your post regarding hexamita and the use of metro & epsom salts. After my own research, I highly respect your knowledge. Thank you!

I am messaging you because I am desperately seeking help to diagnose and treat my large flowerhorn. He started out with a poor appetite about a month ago and within a week or so, he stopped eating altogether. The only other symptom he exhibited was white poop...but it wasn't necessarily stringy. It mostly seemed mucousy and it often appeared in large balls.

Initially I treated with 2 rounds of the metro via the water and this did not have any effect. This was about the time that I found your post, so I began treating with epsom salt by injecting the 3% daily. He seemed to poop some more after this, but not as much as I would have expected since he had begun to appear bloated. He is now extremely bloated and his scales have become raised. His breathing is also labored. I'm so afraid he is going to die soon.

I am thinking of treating with more metro and giving it to him directly via oral route. My only problem with that is I am unsure if this is parasitic or bacterial...?? I am running out of time.

If you could please message me back or call me, I would be so grateful! 920-737-1008

Thank you!

Treating Hexamita aka Spironucleus with Epsom Salt Solution

Thanks for your work on this. Not a big deal but I'm curious...do you make a new batch every day for the 3-5 days, or refrigerate the first batch and reuse?

Use the original batch, no need to refrigerate. Should remain stable for a long time, it's just a mixture of water and magnesium sulfate.

Thanks...did my first batch today for preventative measure. I appreciate your efforts here.

Trying this out, today is day one of treatment. My new fh has normal behavior but has clear/white stringy poop mixed with normal poop. He seems to have a normal appetite but being a new fish im not sure what normal is for him. Thank you for this thread!
