What is the best way to treat for ick in saltwater fish. I have been battling ick in my saltwater tank. I have lost a couple of fish, battling ick. I am use to FW and treating is as simple as raising temperature. In saltwater is it the same? Is there any ick medicine that is safe for live rock, tangs, and anenomes?

ok you will need a quaranteen tank
take your fish out and put in quaranteen tank
lower the salinity (not sure how much)
use UV on ur main tank to kill any free swimming parasites ( i think UV is safe for anenomees.)
put your fish in a fresh tank with antibiotics for a few mins
also you can sterelize the ick that is already on the fish to keep it from spreading
( i do not recomend using any copper treatment even in your qusrsnteen tank because your fish may carry it when you put them back in the main tank it will kill your anenomes
i do not know of any anenomee safe medicine

?????

Yes, remove all of your fish from the main tank and place them in a qt tank. Treat them in the qt tank, don't add any meds to your main tank. There are various methods to kill ick in a qt tank; medicine, lowered salinity. UV can help. If you lower the specific gravity, do it gradually over several days. I think a level of 1.014 is the recommended level. Be careful using meds. Some fish are more sensitive to certain types.

Leave the main tank fish free for several weeks. The idea is the parasite will run out of hosts and eventually die off. It may or may not work though.

Good luck. In the future, you should qt any fish or invert before placing them in the main tank:)

Keepinfish, how many of your fish have ich? Though saltwater ich is a bit different than FW ich it's more likely with bad water quality.

What are your parameters? What kind of kit were you testing with?

There's information on treating ich here:

Copper worked just fine for me on some fish I bought that had ich, including a scopas tang. Obviously don't dose your main tank and be really careful not to use any more than the recommended dose.

I don't know of any very effective and safe meds that will treat ich in a reef tank. It is always best not to put treatments in your reef either way.

He means quarantine tank. Treating SW Ich

Dont use any copper based med when you have any live rock or other live corals, plants, snails they will die from it. I not to long ago traded a tank for a Sohal Tang and didnt put it in a quarintene and ick got on every one and then some secondary infections. I sugest to hypo the tank by lowering the salinity of salt down to 1.09 for 4 weeks, it will kill any parisite, but watch your ph level, you might have to put a additive in to bring it back up if it falls. Reef Central has a good artical on this , so check it out
