In the shadow of death.....
Hey,
My O's come down with Hith due to his refusal of hikari and a Nitrate spike. I was wondering if anyone has treated O's with Flagyl Suspension? And how they went about it???

What other symptoms have you observed? More details are needed. Water change schedule, tank size, tankmates and water parameters are all important basic variables. What else do you feed your oscar? Which Hikari did you try?

Water param's back to normal, my oscar's lethargic, his pits are a reddish and look to be sinking or corroding, I've gone out and paid 40 bucks for flagyl as a precaution i just wanted to know how to apply it, in a med bath a seperate tank, i have another O in the tank currently.

What exactly are the water parameters? Do you have photos of the affected areas?

Please stop bumping more than once a day. Your questions will be answered promptly.

Sorry, Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate below 20 ppm, my o is now eating i beleive it was the nitrate level but i still wouldnt mind knowing how to treat fish with Metronidazole, considering i bought some today, another thing mine is good until oct 09 is that normal or should i take it back and demand a fresh supply???

Your nitrate level is fine. It is not the issue. Metronidazole baths do not help a lot. If you are suspecting internal parasites, then you need to best use metronidazole by letting the fish ingest it. Pound it into powder and mix it on the food. Add garlic on the food. HITH is often caused by very poor diet.

You still haven't answered my question regarding the foods in my first post. Do you have a photo of the affected areas?

No photos except ones under 5mp cant see jack, lately he's been only going for crickets can i gut load them some how this came about because i tried fasting my O's so they'll eat hikari and i added a few mineral blocks to my tank and yeah i noticed he was letharic and noticed a lot more shadowing around his pits.....and redness.

Try beefheart or bloodworms. Beefheart can hold the med much better than the bloodworm.

First of all, Lupin, I gotta say thank you so very much i mean i have about ten LFS's around me in a 10 mile radius and none have been as helpful as you mate. So how should i apply and dilute it another thing am i right giving the both of my O's a long bath???

No, don't give them a bath. Get a mortar and pestle and pound the flagyl there. Mix it with prepared food. If beefheart is not available, get some smelts and stuff the metro in there. You could always try making gel food. All it takes is combine bloodworms, Hikari pellets, metronidazole, veggies/baby food (vegetable flavor), calcium and multivitamins. Once you combined all, mix them to the boiling water with four sachets of Knox gelatin already mixed in it. Place the bowl of mixed ingredients in a microwave oven. Set the oven at medium and run it for 60 seconds. Pour the thick on a cookie pan and maintain half an inch to an inch thick of gelatin. Place it in refrigerator (not the freezer) and wait for a few hours. Cut the gelatin into inch squares and pack them in ziplock bags or rubbermaid containers. Place them in the fridge. It should last you 3-4 weeks.
