Hello,

I bought 10 Juvi Electric blue Rams. I have had them less than a week. At first they have been a little skittish, but have calmed down a little. They are eating ok too.

Well today I have noticed a few of them have some ich on them. Anyway I was reading up on ich treatments for Rams and other sensitive fish and I hear they don't do well with salt or meds. I have these Rams in 84F right now. I was reading something about heat alone killing Ich, is this true? In the tank I got some rummynose tetras, a few ottos and a few threadfin rainbow fish. And a few plants.

I also heard that if the fishes immune system should improve that can fight off the Ich, again, is this true?

Right now I don't know what to do. but I do know the Ich is in it's early stage and I want to treat this right away to avoid any deaths. SHould I just wait to see if the fish fight it off by themselves as they get healthier, or should I raise the temp? Would the temp fluctuation irritate the problem further?

If you have dealt with treating Ich on sensitive fish, especially Rams, please help. Also let me know about the heat alone method and if you have had experience with this.

Please only people with 1st hand experience with treating Rams or similar fish. Thank you

Good to see you back.

One of my Rams devloped Ich shortly after I got it. I used aquarium salt at half a teaspoonfull per gallon and bumped the temp to 90. After 3 days it was gone (not visable on the fish) I lowered the temp to 86 at that point and after (one week) another 4 days did a 50%WC. Thats all it took for me, if you get it early it should work fine for you. GL

Ok, I go the temp at 87 right now. I have not added any meds or salt out of fear the fish wouldn't be able to handle it. Think I should definitely add the salt?

Thanks good to see you too.

I used the salt with no ill effects on the fish, but notice I used half the normal dosage in combination with the heat. The course of treatment I discribed above worked for me in a planted tank with shrimp and neon tetras and everyboby was fine.

add salt bump temps and daily water changes nuff said..

There's no need to dump chemicals in the tank. Just raise the heat and watch them for a week or so. If you have salt, you can try that, but most of the time the temperature will work.

Rams appreciate high temperatures and I wouldn't even keep them at anything less than 84.
