Okay, so I think my tat has velvet. It looked like ick, but now it looks much finer like velvet. He tat is acting fine, but he is absolutely covered in it. The velvet also killed my Juruense catfish and I don't want to also lose my tat.

I am thinking aquari-sol at half dose.

I remember hearing that payara were sensitive to medications so any advice is much appreciated!

The safest treatment would be aquarium salt and higher water temperature.

4lbs salt per 100 gallons. 2lbs one day, 2lbs the next day

I've done that three times since early July. I didn't do it long enough and it kept coming back.

This seems a lot worse than ick and as you can see it really messed up the catfish in two days. I have been adding salt and doing 50% daily WCs with temperature +-.5 degrees.

I haven't really heard of anybody treating anything stronger than ick with just aquarium salt and higher temperatures. I know aquarisol is safe for catfish so I figure half dose probably won't harm the tat.

I want to know is there anything stronger I can do? Also, I had both ick and velvet before and this seems much worse. It appeared to leave bumps under the catfish's skin as well. You can see how bad the texture was in some parts of the picture of it. Could this be something else?

Well,I recently had a peacock bass recover from a rough case of velvet thanks to what I already suggested to you. There are meds that you can use but they may do more harm than good due to the sensitivity of the fish, there's Maroxy and Maracin Plus to name a few.

If salt can cure velvet then I will use that. I was hoping for somebody who actually had experience with the suggested treatment and I was unaware that you did.

I will continue salt treatment then and I am still open to any other options and see how everything goes.

Thanks!

BTW here are some more pictures of the catfish approximately 10 minutes after dying. His stripes appeared to be peeling off and his fins were horrible and he looked like he had really bad ick/velvet right below his first layer of skin. You can definitely see how lumpy the skin got from the sickness.

Poor little Juruense... Salt and high temp is all you can "Safely" do. Any kind of chemical found in most aquarium medications can kill Payara. Best of luck man! I feel your pain since I lost my Tat to velvet, I hope the same does not happen to you...

Dang man. At first my Tat had some ick, but since then nothing at all. That really sucks. I hope your tat makes it through. Good luck, and sorry about your Juruense. My tat is really healthy now
