Has any one ever heard of a tree croc? i saw a program on tv (odell down under) and the whole thing was about tryin to catch one. They do actually exist though, it showed one in captivity but suposidly they are really rare. Any info?

It is one of the several common names for Varanus salvator, also called(among other things) water monitor and Salvator's monitor, although not nearly as massive as a komodo it can get a little longer.

i dont think it was a water monitor, although it was probably a moniter species

I met that guy at the NARBC reptile show.

Marc Oshea was after Salvator's monitors, I know that a green and the black tree monitors are sometimes called tree crocodiles in New Guinea but so are all large lizards. Other than a cryptozoology listing for a as yet unconfirmed giant monitor from Papaua the only "tree crocodiles"I can find are the water monitors which can be fairly variable in appearance.
