omg! are you kidding me damn sorry to hear that!
Thanks, I felt like eating that damned nandus.I love big fish but I rarely buy big because I enjoy raising them to large size so it was really bad to lose the little guy.

Dang Brian :) I thought I posted some sad stuff!! You of All people are one that I have faith in! Still waitin to see that book too!! Remember Even if it doesn't go to print I'll buy a copy! :)

At least I had everyone here to Follow and join in my experience with similar threads... That are 2 years long of me Killin all my fry!! LOL.

I post this way because I don;t have time to write it down.. And really don;t care if someone thinks I'm messed up for the cichla I've owned and killed...

Most peeps that have bred... Post that they succeeded and then post the fry swimming and then NOTHING for months.. And end up leaving the site... Fry are my down fall... I am still not completely successfull.. Anyone here can tell you that.. I've killed more Cichla than most have Owned..... But you don't really think much about fry if your aren't breeding your Cichla.

I have spent many nights wondering what I was doing wrong.. Reading Brian's, Scott's, Darrin's threads... I finally got alittle successful when I got on Juan Tamad's thread and now I am having more and more success...

These are by far the funnest Fish I have ever kept!

I plan to keep more and more:) I Love Cichla

CICHLA

Some of My Trials and Tribs .. Each thread has it's own successes and failures just like everyone else. :)

sorry to hear your losses
over time we all lose fish i know i have lost a few to some pretty silly decisions on my behalf
around 6 months ago i lost a 48cm tem choked to death buy an oscar wedged in his gills
and around 4 years ago i lost my breeding female monoc when my tank crashed after the male monoc tried to eat 1 of my silver arowanas that was great
i think anyone that keeps cichla over a long period of time will suffer some losses along the way

Great thread in the sense that it discusses the fact that mistakes are made and fish do die because of them.
I am guitly of being lazy or too confident when mixing fish of different sizes or not adding melafix when adding or transfering new fish.
Fish escaping through gaps in cover glass, all expensive but also heart breaking lessons.
It's good to learn from others and be reminded of what can happen both the good and the bad.

Mind if I chime in?The other day I received my latest fish order from TUIC and in it was my little Pinima,I placed it in a ten gallon tank to get to a size where it wouldnt be eaten by some of my other fish and I come home to find that my nandus nandus ate it.I didnt think that the nandus was big enough to swallow it.:irked:

i have not been able to find a cichla here in regina

but if they are as expensive as people say i personally would have no other fish in my grow tank

sorry to hear ya lost your fish

I don't think the female orino was your fault. The fish was on death's door when you got it. If it wasn't sold to you I'm sure it would have died a lot sooner anyway.

Also the pair of monoculus. Not your fault. I don't know why anyone would lift a garbage bag full of water without it being supported inside a solid container, that's just asking for trouble.

everyone makes mistakes...and we learn from them. ;)
ive had lots of mistakes as well...
when i BEGAN keeping cichla,my temp. was 26 celcius and i didnt quarantine feeders.
lost over 20 cichla babies.
i bought 3 large monos from a friend, took a 2 hour cab ride back home.
i realized they were,at that time, too big for my tank and only one of them was small enough to survive.
i brought two of them down to the pond and made the mistake of letting my FRIEND hold the bucket.
he was hitting the bucket all the way to the pond and when i released the fish, one dead and the other swimming strange,it did survive.
i went back home and realized the bad was leaking...
all the water came out and the smallest mono and a motoro ray were in a bag with almost zero water.
the ray i put into the tank and it was fine.
when i checked the mono,it had a nice little hole in the gut area...no doubt from the stingray's sting.
lost 2 big monos that day.
nearly lost a ray.
ive also lost cichla a few times because of tankmates eating them...

Thanks, the price depends on the type and in your case, their availibility.I usually have more than one fish when I am growing them out, when I have just one in a tank it tends to be withdrawn and shy or very aggressive when others are added.
