Trick Lying customers into telling you they are Liars!

sometimes when I go to the LFS I feel like I should be the one working there. The owner actually calls me and asks about suggestions on what catfish he should get in. One time I went there and this guy had brought an oscar back in that was clearly suffering from fin and tail rot. The girl working had no clue and told him it was ich. After I made a few suggestions on what to do the LFS owner stepped in and told the people to listen to what I had to say. It's one of only 3 pet stores within a 100 mile radius of me. Everytime I go in some of these pet stores I find myself telling people true max sizes of the fish they are looking at because the little cards that they put up are dead wrong. How can an oscar only get to 11" max? or a tsn only get to 20" max? Limas only get to 9.5" max btw according to the card, but mine was 12" in 9 months. Sorry if I derailed the thread just seemed like I have the opposit problem of you lol. I also heard a lady tell a customer to clean her tank out completely and put a new filter system on it. They do custom cleaning on a lady's 750 gal sw setup and they only clean and water change it every other month cause it's so big that's all it needs lol, but credit to the lfs owner he's been listening and is improving.

p.s. only wish we had lfs workers like you and some of the others on here. Life would be easier. If I need mollies, or guppys I can always count on the LFS around here otherwise it's the internet for me.

I loved the lady that comes in with her 3 year old today. She is wanting to buy 2 new comet(cheap, feeder) goldfish. Says that she just bought 2 others 3 days ago put them in her "tank "and they died today. So she lets the little girl pick out 2 and then wants me to show her some water conditioner. I walk her over and ask "How many gal. is your tank?" she looks at me like I've lost my marbles and says "Oh, its not a real tank-they ARE goldfish you know-its just a vase. But I do hate how quickly they die!" I said, "Well the main fish that you can easily keep in a bowl/vase is a Betta, they are over here." And I took her to where we keep our male and female Bettas, she shook her head and said "Oh no! I have had them before. I dont like how long they can live!" I'm like :screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy::nilly::nilly::nilly::confused::confused::confused::banher:

so I showed her the bowl buddies conditioner and walked away!

It is sad I am not a fish expert and have allot to learn but some times I just shake my head at the the pet store workers thank god for mfk but there is one lfs somethings fishy down here in mia they are great used to be one of the largest exporters from Suriname. I have seen them have to trick the customers many a time into the truth cause fish just don't die (unless they are full grown and old)

ok when i go to my lfs and get fish they die 4 days later and they have a 3 day guarantee my water is good and i have had the tank for 4 years and i don't have a problem with anything but their fish i go other places and get fish and every thing is fine an they live. what is the deal? and the people try to get *****y with me like you do but i have all the right answers

Did you test your alkalinity?

Even if it was mercury, it wouldn't kill the fish so quickly. Elemental mercury (the type used in thermometers) is not easily absorbed by living organisms. It's when it's a dissolved mercury salt that can be absorbed and pose a danger.
