Definitely, a sunfish, NOT a chiclid (No native sunfish are chiclids). Possible that its a green based purely on the fin shape, hard to positive ID without spine count and other identification tactics, unable to see in pic. Also in last pic appears to be white margins on the fins which also could indicate Green sunny. Although NOT a chiclid the green will hold its own in time with about any chiclid as for temperment.

Ummm.....True, but we do have the texas cichlid that is native to the US.

My guess would be a green, based on shape and size of the mouth, and most sunnies that I have run into in feeder tanks are greenies.

I agree with those who say the fish are green sunfish. And as stated before, while both cichlids and sunfishes belong to the Perciformes order they are in different families, Cichlidae for cichlids and Centrarchidae for sunfishes. If you're ever in a situation where you cannot tell them apart there are two features that will help you. Sunfishes have two nostrals on each side of their face, cichlids only one. Sunfishes also have a complete lateral line, in cichlids it is divided.

Ummmm the question was (Quote)
Are they cichlids or not???????????????????????
The key here is Texas ( Chiclid ) That fish is native to the U.S but is a chiclid NOT a sunfish

Maybe i wasnt clear Sunfish are not chiclids
Although there are Native chiclids which i didnt dispute :naughty:

Is that better :)

Is your spelling of cichlids intentional? Not trying to pick on you or anything, just wondering.

No, not intentional, really just not paying attention, since i could care less about Chicklets to begin with. And i probably came unprepared for a spelling bee.
