Hello,
So yesterday we went to one of my favorite LFS, we currently have a
female flowerhorn we were looking for a mate for her. Now we found
a male flowerhorn up on a top tank for 19.99 He was almost completely
black and hiding, but we could see the small KOK so we bought him.
We the very next day he is far from a flowerhorn. He is probably one
of the best looking Trimacs honestly ive ever seen. (pics will follow)

Now since we have decided to keep him. We currently have him in
a 110g with my female ZZ.

What can I expect from this? Are they compatible overall? And to be
honest we do not want to breed these two at all. But i do not want to
get rid of anyone. Total in this tank is one male Trimac and one female
Flowerhorn and a huge 16'' pleco.

What can I do to prevent these two from not breeding? This is a 110
i dont think i really have any options on adding anything new to distract
them from each other and i absolutely do not want to put any barriers
of any kind. Would adding a third fish resolve this? Can a breeding pair
of flowerhorn live with a male trimac, or a pair of trimac live with a
female flowerhorn? I do not want to hybrid these two absolutely
not

Pics to follow

Thank You

the odds of you finding a pure trimac labeled as a flowerhorn are so minute, I wouldn't get your hopes up. However, I am very interested in seeing pics!

trimacs are far less accessible than flowerhorn. it is very likely to get a zz when purchasing something labeled as trimac. the other way around, tho it is possible, is highly unlikely. as to your problem, you said it yourself you are out of options. without adding dividers or at the very least decor to break lines of sight, places to hide, or dithers (all of which i believe would only temporarily successful if at all) your fish will breed. trimacs and flowerhorns, ZZ red dragon especially, are very closely related. Also most CA cichlids can, and usually will, hybridize if more suitable mates are not present. you want to keep both without them breeding, you have to separate them. why are you so against them hybridizing? isnt your avatar a hybrid? flowerhorn x convict if my memory serves me correctly. it seems an interesting looking fish to me...

For the record, I love hybrids my avatar is one of my own creations, This tank is actually at one
of my family members house. So everything I own has nothing to do with this tank. Overall
I will be away for a while and I do no want them breeding there when im gone. This
tank is for a very old family member I will be gone for up to 9months. I was just thinking
before I left if I should put someone else in there to maybe try to lessen the chance of them
pairing together. Pic will come shortly

Not necessarily, fish stores can mislabel a fish

Yes, but this is like buying a mayan for $1.99, and it actually being a festae. Its possible, not very likely though!

This Trimac was someone elses trade in, The store were we went is almost entirely
salt water. We believe they completely mislabeled him, and he looks identical to anything
ive ever seen or searched for. This is a mistake that could very easily be made, to the
untrained eye or someone new this could very easily look like a green flowerhorn.
