Did you see the parents or ask the source where he got the parents?

My guess is also flowerhorn (and douchebag seller)

No, its a local store and the owner has a wholesale a block away.

im going with low grade FH, trimacs dont have that blue lining around their spots

Now while I'm not denying that its probably a flowerhorn, I found a few of sites with blue spots on the trimacs.

While I won't comment either way for the fish in question at this size, your statement is incorrect. In fact, it's as inaccurate as saying trimacs only have 3 spots and that's why people sometimes call them tri spot cichlids.

This thread is one of many to show just how much the colors can vary depending on specimen. Even wild caught specimens from Rapps show this trait.

I voted Flowerhorn. As for Sarah88's request, I prefer Trimacs over Flowerhorns. Personally, I don't see enough real Trimacs near me. They are usually different grades of Flowerhorns. I think that more people should breed Trimacs to spread more into the hobby. I also think that the size and color of pure Trimacs are far superior to any hybrids. If my wife decides to end her fascination with African Cichlids, her abandoned tank may possibly house a Trimac!

yeah i see that, that was a bit of a blanket statement and i see now isnt entirely true, the trimacs i have seen always had lighter, whitish markings around the spots and not blue but i guess some have blue linings as well

but i still dont revoke my vote, i still am thinking low-grade flowerhorn, but i think you will be able to tell better once it is a bit larger.

and gruff master i agree, i much prefer pure trimacs, IMO no FH beats a nice trimac brute, especially in their nice yellow breeding colors :)

Without seeing the parents or knowing the breeder you can't be 100% sure. Ok the disclamer is out of the way, so having said that I think yours looks like a Trimac, that other guys fish is a FH no doubt. Here is a pic of a few of my young Trimac growouts to compare. All are pure Amphilophus Trimaculatus. If you bought a Trimac there is nothing I'm seeing that says you didn't get what you paid for.

Well those pictures make me think it is indeed a trimac like I originally though. Thank you for the pictures. I understand without seeing the parents its not a guarantee but thats exactly like mine looks like. I guess only time will truly tell. Is your avatar a trimac, it looks great.

didnt read any replies but going from the first post i deff say flowerhorn. ive had trimacs and mine all pretty much looked the same pea green with perfect flowers. there is even blue around the flowers on that fish. no trimac

Trimacs have blue as well. If you had read some of the threads you would have seen that, not trying to be rude it just sounds rude.
