They are just guessing. THere is no way to tell for sure what that fish is at that size.

Yes, my point exactly they are guesses. I agree as I've stated you can't be 100% sure. Other then Sarah and one or two others no one has said "I think it's a FH and this is why". I have seen many young Amphilophus not just Trimacs with flower lines, is that the basis for thinking it's a FH? Greenterror posted a link to the Trimac picture thread showing many veriations in color and pattern. If a Lyonsi was posted it would most likly be called a low grade FH with poor breeding. Most have not bread or raised Trimacs from a very young age to be familiar with the changes in color and pattern they go through as they grow.

My point is and was, if the OP bought a Trimac there is nothing in those pictures that makes me think he did not get what he piad for. All I asked is if someone disagrees tell me why!

Yes they are guesses. You can call it whatever you want but without knowing for sure, you wouldn't want to breed it with a Trimac and sell the offspring as pure Trimac. At least not with a clear conscience.

Agreed, If you had a boxer without papers you wouldn't breed it to an AKC regestered Boxer and sell the pups as purebred Boxers you would want to breed to a dog of known lineage for obvious reasons. Doesn't mean you don't have a Boxer, you just can't prove it.

Exactly - it's a better assumption that it's not pure than - based on pictures and conjecture - to come to the conclusion that it is.

If this was any other fish besides a Trimac this wouldn't be a debate. If he bought a Mota and it looked like a Mota everybody would say "Yep Mota". I don't know what about it doesn't look like a young Trimac. He bought a Trimac it looks like a young Trimac. I don't buy into the FH paranoia. I understand the safe thing to say is FH or can't be sure or maybe a mix. If I tought for a second somthing about it looked off I would be right there saying so, I'm just not seeing it. If I'm wrong I'll admit it and take it on the chin, but I'll stand by my statment. The guy bought a Trimac.

I see nothing from the pics that the OP posted to make me think he got anything other than what he paid for.

here is just for reference of a true male 2.5" trimac from wetspot

Its kind of hard to tell if yours is a low grade flowerhorn or a trimac.
