trimacs or flowerhorns?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For the record, i wasnt planning on actually buying the $180 whatever it is, i was just merely requesting that maybe someone with some experience keeping a 'true' trimac could tell by the pics if it is one or not?
Also i was requesting that maybe if you are keen on giving your input, especially as strong an opinion as the one Ken offered up, as well as the apparent experience with the truest trimacs around i.e wildcaught, might have something other than the usual 'if your unsure then its definately a flowerhorn' argument to back it up.
I wasn't trying to start a lame forum argument and thought as i wasn't sure what species it is (and the fact that trimacs and technically flowerhorns are both ca/sa if even only bits and pieces) I would put it in the sa/ca forum and see what kind of feed back i'd get..

Fish hybirds are like religion and politic's. People get a strong opinion one way or the other and few can see both sides; so no sensible discussion can take place.

Very true, i knew with that username your wisdom would be endless danger chicken..
Thanks for the help anyway guys if it makes everyone feel better i am not buying the suspect hybrid but unfortunately i shall be keeping the little guy i bought the other day. Until next time....

Everyone of those fishes in those pictures the OP posted are low grade flowerhorns, the first fish does have strong Trimac genes, but sorry to say it is not pure Trimac at all. It is extremely rare to find a LFS that carries pure/real Trimacs.

Don't worry about what everyone else thinks. If you like the fish and don't have a problem with the price and have a good tank to keep the fish in, get it. I don't have a problem with hybrids or people that hate them. I just don't understand why every ID thread has a bunch of people randomly guessing what as fish is. Most ID threads have a bunch or responses claiming crazyness. I've seen someone wanting an ID on a fish that was clearly a young JD and several people told the guy it's a hybrid??? I could post a ID thread with a red terror and I'd get half responses saying it's either a mayan on a hybrid. :irked:

Why is it unfortunate that you have the second fish? It will most likely end up looking very similier to the fish listed for $180. All that really matters is that you like the fish!!! :)

I am not against people keeping hybrids, I have a problem with them being sold as a pure fish. Most of you think I am this terrible hybrid hater, but I actually have a flowerhorn, it's a curiosity to me, a really beautiful fish. It's called a Red Hot Chilli Pepper, basically a souped up trimac, too much red and too big a head, it'll never be bred. Most of the fish I have are wild fish I collected myself or F1 from wilds. That's what I like. To each it's own. Ken

That is fair enough it just is very confusing for newer people to the hobby that there is a fish that you buy that no matter how much they say it is a real one and no matter how much it looks and acts like one, half the people on here will slam you when u put your nice pics of your new fish for having a dirty hybrid..
I was just saying that its unfortunate for everyone that thinks its a flowerhorn and should be separated from the other fish that im keeping our little trimac (or whatever he is;)) cos he looks awesome and already has personality..
That sounds like a nice fh ken any pics? I was also wondering if maybe ken or someone who has a 100% pure trimac could post a pic so we can all see what a real tri looks like.. thanks

180 dollars is way to much for a trimac and way too much for a flowerhorn like that.

BTW, nice rhyme ken.
