Hey my LFS has some Tropheus Kaiser also known as Ikola right? They are adults, and he is asking 10 each if I buy 20 of them. As adults are they completely black or is that a stress coloring? Are they worth 10 each at about 3.75-4 inches?

Really, $10.00? That's a good deal. Get them before they are out. I have seen them go for $15.00 for 2 inchers and more. I love the colors of kaisers. Try to get enough for a breeding colony or if you have enough money, get the whole group.

He has like 40 or so, I wish I had enough tanks...well I have enough tanks....but 40? I know I will buy at least 20 of em. They are in small tanks right now(you know how most fish stores do it) like 30 gallons or so with 20 each, and they are large, which makes me think they are stressed. They are totally black, once I get them in a big tank will they get the yellow bands back? Or is the black just a bad quality fish? Never really been a huge Ikola fan, but adults for 10 bucks each, Its hard for me to pass that up. They will pale to my Livua and Moliro but I still want em, If you guys dont think its a bad idea I will scoop up at least 20 this week.

That's a good idea in my opinion, I say go ahead and go for it. Ikolas are one of my faves among tropheus species. If they are totally black in the tank, that means they are probably stressed. Get them and if they don't get the yellow band when they are inside your tanks, you can always return them.

Never thought of that, I suppose I will ask the owner if he will take them back if they dont color up, I have a 55 ready to rock right now with about 1200gph of filtration on it, I suppose if they dont color up after getting fed dainichi then there is a problem, He is cutting me a deal "per say" he wants $20 each for em and told me he would do $10 each if I picked up 20......
