*Disclaimer - My big gars are unusually and uncharacteristically tame. INADVISABLE to attempt such a combo unless (like me) you aren't spoilt for tankspace*

Tropical gars on their kamikaze mission...haha.

since there's been so many juveniles floating around, decide to remind everyone that the big boys still rule:P

haha that, and i noticed they were not faring well int the divider. not eating much and very skittish. after my 8" gator gar (a whole other story to be told soon) was left alone for a couple of days in the big tank i decided to bite the bullet and let 4 of them out. they're doing MUCH better and are eating like crazy again. also, they spend a lot of time hiding between the floating divider and the tank walls so the big gars usually just ignore them.

great pics xander, and the TPGs are looking very good as well!

that being said, you are nuts for doing this. i assume the gator gar was one of the past and not in there now? if it's the former, ok, if it's the latter, then that's even crazier given the ambition of smaller gators as they grow.

i think what you have going for you right now is that you have ~5 TPGs...so if 1-2 get eaten you will have a few left. definitely not a combo i would do, especially with the rarity of those gars...space is not really an issue correlated with predation when it comes to larger gars IME and many other cases i have checked out.

back when the Croc II was only about 12-14" long (and much slimmer) it went for one of the newly imported (first 2005 group) that was about 6-8" within the first day.

your fish, and you have your disclaimer, but not a great decision by any means. ok i'm done with my lecturing for now :) --

PS-- wanted to add to this that i won't even add my ~12" CBG group to Gar-Den I...and those fish are much smaller (the current residents) than your gars. GDII is absolutely out of the question as they would be Croc II or large CBG food in a matter of days at best.

story behind the gator gar, 8-12months ago i passed a 6" gator to a friend. a week or more ago i got it back...(wait for it)...at 8". i did not want to risk it with my 5" trop, so into the main tank it went. after a while it was still not bothered by the cubans, and since the larger trops did not seem to be doing well in the 15gal (4, 9" trops and 1, 5" trop makes for a VERY cramped 15gal), i decided to let them out. definitely agree that space is not correlated to aggression. and with any other gars i wouldn't even dream of doing anything this retarded (i've kept, for varying periods of time, 6 adult cubans, and the difference in aggression between this pair and the rest was very obvious).

from what i've read, seems like croc II's a pretty mean fish. this isn't the first time i've done this actually, i used to have numerous small floridas with these cubans back in the day.

but i get what you mean.

haha lecturing is fine. i would have done the same if i saw this online. i've actually braced myself to lose one or two trops...but imo, this is the best i can do in my situation (due to some household issues i cant get mroe tanks). it's been a week or two so far, so i'm keeping my fingers crossed. haha

great pics as always - at the end of the day, you have made the best of the situation and i sincerely hope it works out for you.

will look forward to more updates

def understand where your comeing from, from a RL perspective.. but OMG I would not be able to sleep at night! But again too.. knowing your fish sometimes combos work Okay. at least long enough you can make other arrangements or the fish will be sizable to work better. omg omg omg... lol I would be wakeing up at all hours to peek in on everyone! hehe.
