If I tried this in my tank (in fact, I have with smaller [and cheaper] Lep. species) the result would be (and was) about a week or two of peace, and then abrupt aggression against them.
In fact, a small gar around 10-12" managed to lift the thick glass top with weights on it and zero gap to escape the 500g. I found it on the floor and it survived. To this day I'm not sure how it got out of the tank when two foot gars have bounced off the lid without moving it. I think one of the monster gars threw it (its tail was entirely gone and grew back forked).
Be careful Alex! Hopefully your experience goes better than mine -- it doesn't help that my wolf pack is almost evil in their aggressiveness against non-gars.
