These are super cheap - probably mass-farmed - I have one already, but from a few years ago, otherwise I'd get some.

That's awesome. Where is primo based out of? I ordered from Wes a week ago, and my fish were stuck on a tarmack at fedex here, due to an ice storm. Even though temps were 0, they arrived alive after being delayed 27 hrs. Can't wait to see them when you get them.
So he was unable to pull them from the airport before they shipped out. They arrived today, and after 4 days of being stuck in a bag at freezing temps with no oxygen, they are somehow alive. I'm shocked. I was at work when they arrived, and had to rush home. My girlfriend drip acclimatednthem, and I gave them a salt bath. I had to manually help one of them stay upright and bring him up for air by hand every few minutes. They were both inches from dying. The oxygen deprivation left them both with curled backs, but they have since straightened out. Victor at primo offered to send me new ones once these are stable, if I will send these back at his expense. I'm not willing to put them through any more hell. Give me a minute and I'll get better pics.
Keep in mind by accepting to keep them they are your responsibility. Even though it's a kind and humane thing to do, it is on you if they somehow don't make it: I only mention it because another member went through this recently, and it is something that shouldn't be ignored. They look stable and if they are eating then you will probably be alright, they are cute when they are that size.

I spoke to Victor about it. He is extremely generous in this case. He said I can moniter them for as long as I want, and he will exchange or ship me new ones if anything comes up. Great customer service.

Now to get these guys on talapia and pellets. So far no luck, but its day one and they are extremely unstable at the moment. Having some difficulty swimming and so forth. I'm definitely not out of the woods yet.

Unless otherwise specified, which I may have missed, the gar are almost certainly only going to accept live without some starving or employment of another method. Oddball mentioned a method that he had a lot of success with somewhere. I would fatten them up on gut loaded feeders to fatten them up before trying to make then accept tilapia. In the event that they were previously trained that might not apply, and even if they were it might be the best way to get them to eat. First step to recovery is clean water, second is getting them to eat some quality food.

Yeah, that's the plan. I had to train both of my Florida's, I'm planning to adopt the same strategy here. I'll be picking up ghost shrimp and some sort of feeders tomorrow, depending on availability.
Great to hear primo did well for you. They have some interesting stock once available to the U.S. Definitely good looking gar.
