so do you guys think that a tropical pond in AZ will work out? my main concern is during the summers where temps get into the 100s.

i really do not want to get a chiller because our electrical bill would be off the charts and my dad would kill me:eek:.

hopefully pond would be 10 feet long by 4 or 5 feet wide

so do you guys think that if i make it 3 ft deep at the back {and like a foot or two deep up front (for plants)} and have it well shaded by plants and tarps (if need be) i will not need a chiller?

ok question is, if i make the pond mostly 3 ft deep and have a lot of shade, will i not need a chiller in 100 degree weather?

100 might be ok id get worried when its 115
my pool gets 90 on the surface in the summer, but its not shaded so idk what it would be if it was shaded and 3 ft deep :screwy:

thats what i say if its moderetly deep and shaded it should be ok (im not sure though) and my pool at my old house got around 90 too but yeah it wasnt shaded.

i was watching a show about the amazon and the water temp at the surface was 90 (even though the fish were at least 5-10 feet down under the surface) so i figured that it may be alright.

ya u could put a bucket of water out in the shade and see what it gets to

too bad its not summer....... so i figured i would do this, make the ponds in a few weeks..... get like 20 feeder guppies (remove females of course haha and either save females and collect baby males or feed females to bigger fish) and then when summer comes see how they do....

if they do alright buy some cheap silver dollars, if the SDs survive the summer then i can put my red hooks and my leporinus in there (dont really care if they die, i would hate it but its not like i was putting my temensis in there) if the red hooks and leporinus survive, buy some ocel or mono pbass, if the "cheaper" bass survive then i could put my temensis in there when they get bigger. lol

if my plan fails, then i'll just do a koi pond:D

nice
one question?
how are u gonna make it?

buy a rubber liner from homedepot (cheapest out there and you can cut it to any size you need at HD, its a big roll and you cut it)

then comes the physical labor of digging (hopefully with my dad's help) then comes plants around pond, then a filter, then trying to see if i can use a pool pump with the filter box haha

oh and about 300-400 dollars:D

ur just gonna dig it with a shovel???
wouldnt the filter alone be 300-400$

wow thats gonna be tight
gl i hope it turns out how ur hoping :D
o and then u can get ur aro back! :mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave::mwave: :asianarow
