HI, IM NEW HERE AND THIS IS MY FIRST POST. I HAVE HAD 5 CONVICTS IN MY TANK. I HERE SO MANY STORIES OF HOW EASY THEY ARE TO BREED BUT I CANT DO IT. I WAS GNA USE THEM AS FEEDERS FOR MY BREEDING OSCARS. I HAVE 2 MALES AND 3 FEMALES. THE DOMINANT MALE ALWAYS CHASES EVERY FISH NON STOP. I MOVED A MALE AND FEMALE TO A 10 PLANTED WITH A POT FOR 3 WEEKS STILL NO BABIES!!!! IM GETTING FRUSTRATED!!! SOMEONE HELP. THE WATER IS AT 74DEGGEREES AND THE AMONIA AND NITRTES ARE 0. HHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!

First of all stop with the CAPSLOCK:)

What size are the cons?

change half the water, seperate the cons into mf groups, and up the temp to 80.

If you have a "colony" in too small of a tank they could be too stressed to breed... just keep one male and one female. These are pairing fish, not colony fish (although can function as a colony in a large enough tank).

how can you tell which one is male and female? I have 20 convicts in a 55g tank and cant tell one from another. i got them when they were fries and now about 1" to 1.5". is it still to young to tell? cause i want to move a couple to 10g tank to see if they will mate.

ok the females get orange bellies and the males dont i would see if u can id a pair and remove them to a 10g. 1" is a bit to small to breed or sex imo though.

yeah, same advice-- pair them down!

thanks for all the help i got eggs! it seems that the water change did it. my convict/parrot hybrid bred with my blue convict! thanks again. looking to breed more cichlids soon whats your opinion on an easy species to breed and sell

Any progress?

Sorry you are having issues. With Cons, the only advice most need is add water. Mine breed like clockwork. A spawn every two weeks....
