See how much work is required !!! Just fir a chance it will live , I've had one 4 years ago , before this club, before researching , not doing huge water changes, it's as simple as this . If you can see its hip bones, two small points up by its tail , and it's not eating a lot and your not changing 30% twice a week , it will die.

Try raising an aba aba from 3".... retics are cake compared to that... lol but yes.. they do require some TLC when you first get them and all 3 of mine where hippy and one had a broken tail that was fuzzy ( she has a beautiful pattern so I took the chance on her) no ray is a "beginner fish" and a WC fish is going to be touchy unless its built like a tank to begin with.

WRONG!!!

remember my Motoro a few months back, the grey one?

His hip bones were showing massively. Now he's fat, greedy and always on the look out for food.

To the OP do not give up. Do everything you can and keep at it.

Effort and care is something that pays off in my experience. Water changes need doing 50% twice a week. I never let my nitrate get over 5. Just because you can see hip bones doesn't mean it's a goner.

Motoros are like dogs , very hardy, we all know the real deal. People see the low price of a tea cup $50. Average and say cool I want it now . That Impulse purchase leads people to this club to find out why it's dying.

Average guy is not going to RUN out and buy a 125 tank for a 5" ray, and not going to have the right food or enough water changes.

So because they are "cheap fish" they are abused more... its not that they aren't hearty or good fish to keep.. the people who keep them don't bother doing their research or care enough about the fish. But it's the fishes fault? The real deal is a retic has a "hope" to live in the average big tank (180-220)... that the motoro will easily outgrow it which is why when I did my research I got retics.. not motoros or leos... at the time I wasn't sure I'de be able to have the 1k gallon we have now. Which I am happy to say houses my pair of retics alongside my "more expensive fish"

If you care enough about the animal they have a chance of recovery... That's the truth of it.
