That's too bad -- I hate to see trees cut down. But, I know it is better to cut them before they fall on someone! Or like my elms did, on my house. :(

That's a lot of apples to bring down a tree!

Having thoughts of the murderous apples trees from Wizard of Oz! ;) Time to plant some new ones. Maybe you can plant several different types of fruit trees, and enjoy some variety.

Out of curiousity, is that how the annalogy of "Rotten to the core" came about or do you know? Sounded good, just thought I'd ask.

the apples would be so big by picking time ..sept or oct they would all be coming down by themselves...such an abundance this year on such old old trees..

you and i think along the same lines.. haha.. thats how i felt just before i had to go out and mow...i would say to myself to the trees... hang in there for one more day..:screwy: some places i will plant another tree or bush.. other areas i will leave open... they won't be missed.. except for the pies.. 4 trees down... 16 more to go.{we counted wrong in the beginning} at least 20 plus a couple in the horses pastures we will decide later on them

I know why it spoils the whole bunch too! The ripening hormone is actually a s gas that is released by fruits. Once one fruit releases it, it spreads to the others. When apples are side-by-side they ripen and rot much quicker than when they're on the tree.
