The lao-luo aka vaillantii has been well, eating exceptionally well always but growing very slowly, still at 2 feet. Sadly it fought so much with IDK who in prior years that its pretty dorsal fin has been permanently destroyed. The bump on the nose was there when I got the fish from Wes, so that's permanent too.
The vaillantii has been in this 4500 gal for 6 years now and doing well. Not growing much at all for the last several years, despite heavy feeding and round shape. I don't understand this - why it is not growing and whether it is the norm in captivity. What's your experience, peer keepers???
A 14-16” specimen has just come up for sale in one of the two specialist LFS I use but despite being very rarely seen here, I cannot justify the £450 price tag. Beautiful fish.
It's so seldom offered that it commands obscene prices. For catfish nuts made of money... or who are willing to fast for a month or two to afford it. That'd be the spirit!
